Walker scooters vs others--what is the difference?

I see Walker Mobility advertises their scooters as being water resistant. How are there scooters any different from the others, say Golds Mobility, that they can claim that? I'm just wondering if it is worth switching to Walker to get a scooter that is water resistant. My trip is in August and it rains almost every day.

Water resistant won't help if torrential rains produce deep puddles. Covering the tiller with a shower cap or even a small bag from a gift shop is generally all you need to make any scooter reasonably water resistant.

I have no personal experience with Walker. I don't know how much better their scooters do in the rain. Probably better but maybe not enough to matter.

At some point the rain is so bad you're not going to want to be out, with or without a scooter.

When I went last August I made sure I was prepared for rain. I had 2 ponchos of my own, to go along with the 1 poncho and 2 tiller covers Golds provides. I brought along clothes pins, and I pinned the tiller cover on. Covered the front with the provided poncho, and then wore one myself. I was still a bit worried about damaging the scooter. Am I crazy?

I'm not qualified to make that diagnosis and a person who is qualified won't make it on the basis of web posting.

We had a Gold scooter in driving rain. The issue is avoiding deep puddles. People drive cars and motorcycles in the rain. Keep the electronics dry and you should be OK.

I have travelled numerous times in August with a scooter. I've rented from Gold for the last five years. Previously, I used Walker Mobility. Both scooters are "water resistant". When using a scooter in rain, you just need to cover the tiller. I have been in significant downpours, riding through deep puddles and never once had a problem. Have an extra poncho and cover your scooter if you park it any where (storms can develop in a matter of minutes)

@maxiesmom @Bjkandma I rented from Walker Mobility last year and I did not need to cover the tiller. I saw others scrambling to cover their scooters and I just kept on going. My family was wearing ponchos so, they didn't mind walking in the pouring rain since we were on a mission to not miss our reservations lol. They have all new scooters made in the US is what Cherilyn told me when I booked and just by looking at it I could tell. I got compliments on my scooter from others. Hope this helps if either of you are going to try them. I'll be renting again from them this year when I go back.

When I looked at Gold's website their "extended battery was only 10 hours" and I saw that Walker's exceeded that by a long shot. I guess it depends how long your looking to stay at the park but, as for me and my family I knew we'd be there from park open to park close and I needed that peace of mind of not having to worry about battery life. When I tell you I watched the fireworks and was headed back to my resort with still half a battery life I was just amazed!

You do have to meet with them if you are staying at a Disney Property Resort. They set up a window alongside with you and meet you within that window. My driver was on time and gave us a call when he was 15 minutes from the resort so, we had that heads up which was nice.

That's good to know When I was deciding on which company to go with I went off of the battery life listed on website and on the amp power on batteries when I called both places which, led me to Walker.

We also have never had the battery drop below the green lights from Gold. They go all day with no issues for us.

Walker Mobility seems to have better rates too. I would say try it and if it doesn't work out you can always go back to whatever company your use to renting from.

Some of the pros I see from renting with Walker other than battery life is their rates, not needing to cover tiller in rain, new scooters that are custom made in the USA and live agents (some places I called I was either unable to reach a live agent or get directed to book online).
