Walked out of Rango

my friends took her kids... ages 10-16 and they said the stunk. They said it was the worse movie they have seen in a long time.. ( and they go the movies a lot)

Wow, some people have told me that they liked the movie plus it's decently rated on Yahoo and boxofficemojo. This is the only place where I've seen such comments.

I haven't seen it. My brother and his son(a film school student at Florida State)saw it and did not like it. They both try to see everything that is released.

A young woman at church and her son saw it yesterday and she told me it was just OK. She said it dragged on and on and she thought it would never end.

A friend of mine said the same thing, so we'll be skipping this one. Too bad - it looks like it should be a kid friendly movie, but I trust my friend's judgement - I just don't know why they would market this one to kids - it sounded pretty bad.

My daughter and friends went Friday night (Freshman and Sophomores). She said it had inappropriate language and just wasn't a good movie. She told me a family in the theater walked out after twenty minutes and said it was a waste of money.

I have to say, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The only thing that bothered me was the face of the character Beans. It looked strange...

But anyway, I figured that the line near the beginning of the movie would tip people off to the "kid friendliness". A desert toad is carried off by a hawk and says "You son of a -" and is cut off by the hawk.

Otherwise I have to say that I actually like 'edgy' movies like that. Something advertised as a kids movie with a taste of reality. Some kids are indifferent...

I was a fan of the art style specifically.

My husband loved it. But I don't think the 2 7 year olds he took were fans.

I let my kids see PG movies all the time. I really don't think Rango is a kid's movie, though.

LOTS of Disney movies are PG (incl Tangled), so I keep in mind what others say about it and reading reviews online.

PG is usually fine for kids. Parents have to make their own calls when it comes to movies.

I do as well. I would have hated to miss seeing Tangled, just because it was rated PG. My 3 year old dd loved it, and while we did have to have some discussions about the "mean mother" dying; I didn't think there was anything wrong with taking her and it was rated PG. My dd and ds have gone to lots of movies that are rated PG (honestly sometimes it's hard to find movies that are rated G.) After hearing all the reviews though, we will be skipping Rango, although we are going to see Mars need Moms today, and that's rated PG.

With my kids at 14 and 10, I don't bother with Kids in Mind for PG movies. HOWEVER, since we also brought a almost 6 and almost 4 year old along with us, we probably should have checked. If we had known it wasn't really appropriate for them, we probably would have gone to Gnomeo and Juliet instead. It really wasn't approrpiate I think for kids under 10 or 8.

HOWEVER, my 14 year old, myself, and my wife LOVED the movie. Our 10 year old really didn't like it. He just thought it was stupid. :confused3

Only movie I ever walked out on, though, was JFK.

its too bad.. with what everyone is saying here ,i would not take my kids to see this movie.

Dh and I saw it saturday and really liked it. We thought it had a really great message near the end, which if you walked out or fell asleep you would have missed, and smaller kids probably wouldn't have understood it on their own.

yeah I don't know why people are saying "DUH it's rated PG" there are TONS of movies that are rated PG that are fine for kids. Shrek, tangled, and then there is iceage 2 that is rated G but when I watched it with my hubby in the theater I leaned over and said "Geez whats next... are they about to drop an F bomb?" :lmao:

so uh yeah I can see why people would be confused about the PG rating since there isn't really a rhyme or reason to it. so lets not treat the OP like a moron because it said PG ok :) :confused3

I haven't seen this movie but EVERYONE I know who has thought it was terrible. not nessecarily the language or anything (although some people weren't too fond of that either) but more that the movie itself was sLOOOOOOOW and really dragged out and wasn't overly entertaining. I haven't seen it and likely won't but this is just my experience with friends that have seen it.

To be honest I didnt find the commercials for it made it look all that interesting and wasn't planning on seeing it even before I heard all the bad reviews.

that movie bored us I wanted to walk out. Terrible movie. It went on and on and on. We thought that it would never end. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

And everyone I know has liked it for what that's worth. That's why I've been so surprised to see so much negativity here. I haven't seen it nor do I plan to so I can't otherwise comment.

different strokes for different folks lol

Other than here I haven't heard from one person that liked it

but like you I also haven't seen it and really don't plan to.

Now I'm torn. I tend to like movies that others call boring. I guess I'll wait until it comes to the dollar movies and go then, if I'm inclined.

an exercpt:

It's really not for young kids, despite the heavy promotional play it's been getting on Nickelodeon (who co-produced this film). In addition to the general oddness of the production, the film is quite violent in spots. Many of the toad, turtle, and rodent characters are shown smoking, boozing, and reacting as they normally would in a Western. You don't want your kid to open up his/her Happy Meal and find a frog bartender character chomping on a stogie. At that point, apples instead of fries is the least you can do for your kid. Also, the film just isn't as cuddly or mainstream enough to really appeal to the date-night crowds or even teenagers, who aren't going to get the film's influences and references.

Mr. Moviephone was on the radio this morning and said something like this

Out of Red Riding Hood, Battle LA, Mars Needs Mom, and Rango....Rango was the best and he really enjoyed it. He thought all the other ones were horrible, but he's just a critic like you and I...he just gets paid for it lol.

DH and I took DS9 to see it and all three of us liked it a lot. I didn't find it inappropriate, or boring. The theater was packed, and there was a lot of laughter, so I know we weren't the only ones enjoying it. To each his own, I guess. :confused3
