Walk, Walk, and Walk some more before going to Disney

Having had two separate bunion surgeries (both feet, both times) I have learned that the minute my feet start hurting I need to do two things - find a few sit down attractions and ice my feet each evening. Both times I started to have feet problems, the ice made a huge difference.

Hi!
I also have had two bunion surgeries and I have arthiritis in both ankles---I know foot pain. However I love my croc shoes!!!!
Have you tried the crocs? They are heaven sent. You should try them if you haven;t. I remember the first year I wore them (several years ago) I would come back to the room at night after being on them for 16 hours and realize "hey my feet don't hurt". It was a great feeling.

This has got to be the best advice I have heard about feet care! I never would have even THOUGHT of icing them!

I jsut had bunion surgery in June. Never been told to ice it though. I can't imagine doin both feet at the same time. OW! I couldn;t walk at all with one done. I'm jsut getting into a shoe now and still I can't walk too much as it gets sore. Why did you have to get them redone?

Crocs to me are horrid. I can wear them to water the garden, but to wear them anywhere else is awful. I sweat so much in them and they are not too comfy either. The ones I wear to water are from my nephew who didn;t like them and they are a mens size 12 I think, so they are really big, so I can handle them for short times. But my older DD wears the same size as me, and I tried hers on and after 10 minutes I knew these were awful things. LOL! Also they gave me blisters on the side of my feet in just that short time.

I think its more stopping than the walking, you walk, then stop, walk some more and stop, putting pressure on your shins which never happens in normal walking with no stopping. Unexpected stops, strollers, guests stopping in front of you, lateral walking movement around someone or something is all different than walking around the block at home. I'd say, walk at home before hand, stop and go, cross the street back and forth and even walk alittle backwards will tone up the legs more for a WDW trips.

This is one of my top pieces of advice to Disney goers. Get your ADRs, TGM, and break in the walking shoes. At least two months before your trip, start walking a few miles a day. This fall we're playing "tour guide" for some friends and since we've recently crossed the 60 day mark, I've started sending e-mails/calling to remind them.

Well I just started walking again on the treadmill. I had knee surgery in April and I have not been able to walk as much as I was. But I know if I don't our trip to wdw will hurt. So hurt now or hurt later, I guess I will hurt now.:rotfl2:

One of the best things we did 6 months before our last trip was get a puppy. My boys and I walked the puppy around the neighborhood every evening. It made a huge difference in their stamina at the parks. Even if you do this a few weeks before you go, it makes a huge difference!

Here at home we've started walking around the neighborhood every day. It is great for keeping the stamina at a Disney level. And mentally seeing the outdoor sights is so beneficial.

Before putting on the coolmax socks and walking tennis shoes, we smooth BodyGlide over the toes. That stuff is wonderful. And it was a Dis'er that first told us about BodyGlide. So I can't reinforce use of it enough.
