anybody was able to walk up at Ohana or Chef mickey's for dinner recently?
esp during free dining. how long did you wait for check in?

Thanks!

If they are accepting walk-ins, unless you actually get there prior to opening expect a wait of at least a full hour.

During free dining you can pretty much count on being turned away.

IF and that is a big IF you are looking at more than a 2 hour wait in their lobby. I was shocked when I kept hearing this one night.

Keep in mind that WDW restaurants generally don't hold tables for walkups; if they're fully booked they'll just turn you away.

People occasionally manage to get into one of your restaurants as walk ups, but it's not common, and I especially wouldn't try it during free dining. The restaurants are even busier than usual.

I'd recommend continuing to call and hoping for a cancellation. That's your best bet. Keep calling when you arrive at WDW, people do cancel at the last minute.

On Sept 14, 2007 there was a sign up at MK that said there were no tables available at any MK TS restaurant or any TS at any MK resort. That was a busy day, but nothing could be gotten. This was during free dining on a Spectro day with the grand re-opening or Haunted Mansion. But CM and OHana are very popular year round. I wouldn't waste a trip to the resort hoping against hope for a miracle.

I don't want to give you false hope here, but we were able to get a Chef Mickey walk up for a party of 8 on Saturday, August 14th (evening before FD started). We had about a 30 minute wait and were seated around 7PM. (We had also tried for a walk up at Ohana and were told our wait would be anywhere from 10 minutes to 110 minutes - but that they would get us in.)

On Sunday, August 15th, we stopped in at Mama Melrose to try to move our ADR to earlier in the day, but were told they were completely booked up for the day. Later that night, my sister and BiL tried to make late evening ADRs for a party of 2 either in the MK or at a monorail resort restaurant and they were unable to. No walk-ups were available either. HOWEVER, many of these restaurants were willing to take large groups (of 8-10 ppl) on a walk up or last minute ADR basis.

So, is it possible? Yes Likely? No

They usually will just say no and not let you wait unles you hit the exact right moment with the right party size. Chef Mickey opens at 5 but a line forms at about 4:30 of people waiting to check in at 5 and I assume the same happens at Ohana. If you really want the best shot showing up at 4:15 and being at the very front of the line would probably be the best bet since you'd be guaranteed to be the first walk up.

We've done walk up at O'hana twice now. Both times we arrived at 4:30 and waited for the hostess desk to open at 5:00 so we were one of the first ones in line to check in. We were guaranteed a table both times but had to wait over 2 hours on both occasions. It was fine for us because we grabbed a seat at the bar and had a few drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere. However, if you aren't interested in waiting that long I would suggest trying to make ADR's beforehand (keep checking if nothing is available right now).

You will be very lucky to get a walk-in during free dining, If you are so lucky than the wait till could very well be a few hours...so I guess it depends if you think the food is worth the wait. (I know most of my family would get pertty grumpy if we had to wait hours for food)

what if you have a late reservation want to move up.

It all depends on how full the restaurant is at the earlier time. The day prior to the start of free dining we had a 4:45 ADR at Mama Melrose ... we inquired at about 2:00 if we could be taken earlier and were emphatically yet apologetically told "No, we're booked solid today". (I know this isn't a CM or O'h example, but it is a recent one. :goodvibes)
