Walk Times

Yes, no need to J-walk, I was thinking the same thing... We do just walk on the Harbor Blvd side, but had always been cutting through Mimi's parking lot thinking it had shaved some distance off, but it is NEGLIGIBLE from doing a Google distance walking map, and now I see it is safer to just walk up to the corner where Mimi's is, then turn onto Harbor Blvd if you are not taking 'the shortcut' on the other side of the street. I agree it is a shortcut, but don't always feel as comfortable walking on that side.

We always walk on this side! That is the "scary side" with they bus depot, across the street from Mimi's.

Honestly, I'm not sure why more people don't walk on this side, at least in the morning/daytime? :confused3 The walk IS much faster, mainly because you have less pedestrians and I think there's actually 1 less crosswalk since walking on this side puts you right at the pedestrian enterance.

However, I can certainly understand why I don't see many folks on this side in the evening. I live in Seattle area so I'm use to the "colorful" folks...and of course having my big football player sized hubby with me keeps me safe.;)

But in the morning? It's a definate do! Saves time, IMO.

Thanks OP! Would you be able/willing to add the Ramada Maingate (on Harbor) to the list so I can get an idea of them south of the entrance? Thanks so much! :)

Ramada Maingate added also have added the DTD factor to DLH and GC as it seems this is more in keeping with others thoughts on that walk...

If anyone has specific other hotels I am happy to apply the same formulas for them...

Would you be willing to add Super 8 motel on Harbor Blvd & Katella Ave. On the reviews some people say it is a 10min walk and some say 20+min. 10+minutes is a big difference.

I have added the Super 8 in Katella, it is right beside the Best Value Inn we stayed at last year... The best we did the walk was 10 minutes (that's right to the security check) and that was by fluking the lights and we were walking to DL... Coming home it was typically 15 minutes as we were, understandably walking slower...

For us the saving for staying this little bit further away was well worth it but it may not be the case for those with children or walking difficulities...

Funny Ive clocked it a few times from both the Carousel and the Tropicana both and it was just about that with waiting for the crosswalk. Those estimates are about right! THANKS!

Thank you Kiwitravel, I appreciate it!
I contemplating on staying ther. My boys will be 5 and 6, and I am wondering if they would be fine walking back if we took it easy at the parks in the evening.

I would budget on the 15.5 minutes there and maybe 17 minutes back...

We didn't find it that much of a problem even coming back in the afternoon for dinner and a rest before heading back, typically its only about 8 minutes further away than the nearest Harbor hotels...

TY so much! :)

Hey KIWITRAVEL! I think what some people forgot was a great big huge THANK YOU! for your hard work and for posting it for us!!
I love this and will use it when we plan our next trip. Thanks so much!

I don't think they were meaning to be rude by questioning your methods and results - although it did seem that way ;)

I welcome the input from those who have stayed at these hotels as I have only stayed at three of the hotels on the list.... Things like the slower walk through DTD is an example...

I am happy to add any other hotels people may want...

? No need to J-walk. Hojos is at Harbor and Manchester. Just cross to the Disney side of Harbor at the light at Manchester. You will walk behind far fewer people.

I began to think I hallucinated everyone talking about jaywalking to get to Hojos quicker--but then I did a search and this is what people were saying:

take the elevator down to floor 1, turn left and go out the side door which was right next to Manchester, jaywalk across Manchester (very little traffic) and cross Harbor at the light. It keeps you out of the crowds and cuts a couple of minutes off your walking time.

It is my understanding that you don't have to jaywalk to take this shortcut, but I can't figure out how to do that.

We always crossed Manchester at the light and then immediately crossed Harbor at the same intersection. No need to jaywalk.

This will be my first time staying at Hojo. I have to ask... what's wrong with the other side of Harbor. Why do people only walk on one side?

It is quicker to cross at Manchester and walk down the DL side of Harbor...

It is a little shorter in distance as it is a more direct route and also it is less crowded so if a quick walker you will have less people in your way. I included both and the cross at Manchester worked out to be a little over 1 and 1/2 minutes quicker...

True. No need to jaywalk, but it will cut down on waiting for the crosswalk (if there is any). And when the pp said there is very little traffic he was correct. It is a little traveled side street. If you stay on the Mimi's side of Harbor after you jaywalk you can cut through the neighboring parking lots to cut a bit more time off.
