Used to be, you could just show up at PC and walk right on no matter your boarding number after a certain time of day.
Now, it's been 7 years since we sailed, so this may have changed even at Port Canaveral.
If this is still a thing, does anyone know whether it applies to San Diego and what time I would want to arrive to do it? If I need to miss the lunch that day we can always eat at the hotel first, would rather miss that if need be and just walk on like we used to.

following as I want to know too, this will be my 8th cruise (NY to Bermuda) but first for my boyfriend. He is not good with Disney crowds and we have no real need to get on ship early (yes, Palo and Spa reservations will be nice if still available when we board). I want him to have a pleasant experience (so we can cruise DCL again after this....lol)

In 5 cruises I only picked one with an early boarding time and CS held everyone at the 'gate' to board at the same time. When we arrive we stand in line to check in and no ones ever stopped us other than the one time.

We had a 12:45pm PAT at Port Canaveral in June. It was already open boarding by the time we got through security.
Edited to add that we were on the ship by 1:15--this includes dropping off luggage, parking, walking over, having our docs checked, a bathroom stop, security, and actually walking onto the ship.

They did this in July at PC. Our PAT was 2pm, but we arrived about 1pm. Shortly after arriving, they called all groups. This was way before 2pm.

Ok so it sounds like you can still do this - does anyone know what time I should go for San Diego port?

Unfortunately, you may have to wait until the Fall San Diego cruise season begins to get a good answer. When the Wonder was here in San Diego this spring, they were still seriously enforcing port arrival times, but that was a few months ago and things are rapidly changing with respect to boarding procedures.

What time does the ship leave port in San Diego?
All Aboard is listed at 4pm. That's usually "run like heck to catch the boat" time because they are typically pulling in the ramps. I would guess you should easily be able to do walk-on at 2pm, probably sooner.

This is good to hear. I forgot to check in for my 9/23 Wish cruise yesterday. I just did it and got a 12:45pm Port Arrival. I’m the past we always were before Noon.
