Walk-ing Back to Disney! COMPLETED 10/16! A Fall 2014 PTR!

I saw you over on Lori's PTR and everyone seemed to know you so I felt like I needed to get to know you too :) haha hi! I just got all caught up on your plans and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes!! I want to make some! Do you have a style that you like the best for adults? (Hobby lobby? Walmart? Target?) what a about for a toddler? I'm pretty sure my 2 yr old son needs some Disney shoes for the summer. Oh! Oh! Oh! He's having a Mickey bday party this weekend. He probably needs Mickey shoes for his party! I'll have to go get some tomorrow and get a-crafting! Lol

Oh and the lamby headband is so perfect!! I think white shorts and shirt with a pink tutu will be perfect. With the doc costume everyone is going to know who the rest of you are!

Haha! Hi! Yes, I've seen you all around too!!

On the shoes, for the kids they don't seem to mind much, I like walmarts selection right now, they seem a higher quality than those at hobby lobby. Any canvas shoe will work! So like a keds/vans/toms knock off! And then I just use acrylic paints and a couple layers or scotch guard! Yes! He def needs for a bday party! Copy any I've done if you like! They're so fun, and addicting... ;)

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO my friend.. again your daughters are just sooooo adorable!!!! Disney is going to gush all over them in their get-ups! :woohoo:

The tee shirts are AMAZING! i still wish we lived closer! you can kick my behind into Craft mode... :rotfl:

I AM IN LOVE with the Lilo dress!!!!

May have to but the hat!!!! One for myself!!! :hyper:

This Dessert party... I have no words...

Have you seen the new sketchers? there is GO WALK and memory foam ones. LOVE THEM.. there are also fan-tab-u-los inserts you can buy! The socks help like you mentioned. then there is the foot rub we use as well. This Stuff: FOOT RUB you already put mole skin on your list.. then there are rub sticks you can buy for your feet so the shoes do not rub in them! I am going to look into wicking socks Suzi said they worked.

Oh lists--how I love them! I've been known to write things I've already done on them just so I can cross something off and feel like I've gotten something done. Don't judge! :rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I do the exact same thing!!! LOVE my lists!!!

Terri, as far as feet go, I have really bad feet as well and I echo what someone else said…shoes are the key! I cannot (ever) wear flip flops. I love them and so wish I could, but no way. Also, those darling little shoes you're so skilled at painting, I could not wear those either, sadly. I go to a running store (Second Sole) where they measure you, watch you walk and even have a treadmill to see how the fit is when you're on it. Anyway, I know they will get the fit right and get me the right shoe for the way I walk. I am going to look into those Orthoheel shoes someone mentioned. I also soak my feet and elevate as soon as I get back to the room. That's one reason we usually take an afternoon break, so my feet can rest up. You are wise to be concerned about it so you can take steps now (no pun intended, lol) to be prepared. I don't wear sandals at Disney, but at home I wear Keens. They keep my feet from hurting even though they aren't the prettiest shoes. One more thing. I know, boggles the mind, right??:rotfl: I would start walking at least a little bit every day as soon as possible.

I love the latest outfits for the girls too. Every time I see your girls, I just fall in love with them more. They are so adorable! You are doing a fantastic job on the Lilo flowers!

I don't know if I've ever asked you what part of Texas Boerne is located? My sister lives in Flower Mound, which is near Dallas/Fort Worth area and my aunt lives in Kerrville. Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day today. I'm sitting here watching the snow come down and singing "I'm dreaming of a white Easter"!!:scared1:

ETA: I also use wicking socks the whole time I'm at Disney. Actually I wear them here at home as well. They really help!

So let me throw my two cents in here just to add to your decision making troubles :lmao: When we stayed at POR we were in the parterre building 95. We didn't look at any of the other buildings while we were there so I have no comparison but the walk from the bus/lobby/gift shop/food wasn't as far as it looks on that map. Or at least I didn't think it was that bad. The preferred rooms are probably closer, but it wasnt an awful walk and it's SO pretty. Also, we never swam since it was too cold, but there was a quiet pool pretty much right outside our door. I just really loved the RR but I don't think you can make a bad decision there with whatever room you decide on.
I almost missed this! I poured over it again last night and with the bride to the main building it really doesn't seem THAT far. Also we won't have a need to go the main bldg everyday. We have another bus stop on the opposite side too. Bc there are coffee makers in room that makes things easier. I was also reading on someone's PTR from last year that they only offered FD for RR?!?? Not sure how accurate that is but it would certainly make my decision easier!

hehehe, we are so much alike!!! I am a MAJOR list person too....so much so that EVERYONE I know makes fun of me for it!!!:rotfl2: Seriously, how do they remember everything without lists :confused3 gotta go work..... okay, so now that that's done...... I love the HS outfits! It is super cute the way they are mismatch matched!!!! So creative! Those hats at Claire's are cute too.....there is no way my girls would keep them on though... Great luck with the headbands!!!! I am all about some easy costumes.....y'all are gonna be adorable!!!

Thanks!! I'm reallllly getting in the Disney mood these days. It's all I can think about!

As far as feet go. I too have issues with them. I try and spend at least 15 min/day laying on the floor with my feet elevated on the bed. As for the special socks... I believe they are called compression socks. Don't hold me to it though. I've thought about looking into them myself but haven't done it yet. Let me know how they work out for you if you get them. Keep in mind with POR that the RR are preferred rooms. Though really anywhere on the resort is truly not as bad as people make it out to be. I hope you are able to swing the difference. It truly is a magical resort. Love the Lilo dresses! THey are just down right adorable!

Good tip on elevating! I plan to do that every single day for sure!! Making up a (surprise surprise) list of all these great tips! Hoping I can fight it off!!

Oh lists--how I love them! I've been known to write things I've already done on them just so I can cross something off and feel like I've gotten something done. Don't judge! :rotfl: I didn't realize the girls shirts had glitter on them. That's so cool! They're totally adorable. And the Lilo dresses look great! Feet issues.....I hate them as much as I love lists! The thing that worked for me was Tylenol and putting my feet up as soon as we got back into the room. I hate taking medicine but at Disney I live on Tylenol. I'll take a couple before we leave the room, a couple at lunch/late afternoon and again at bed. I also try to have good shoes on (of course), and not do a lot of backtracking at the parks. This year I'm going to bring some cushy inserts too and see if that helps. I think the foot soak was on danimaroo's tr but I don't remember the name.

Thanks!

And yea, I think this year may be easier in terms of not backtracking as much now that I know the lay of the land. It will be much easier to get around. I just need to remind myself to pace myself so I'm not go, go, go the whole time! With just the four of us I can see that happening! But we have double the time we did last year so that should help a lot to not make us feel rushed!

Love the Doc and Sofia outfits! I am also an obsessive list maker, I have lists to help make lists!:rotfl: I also put stuff on them that I have already done so it looks like I have really accomplished something!:lmao: I think you will LOVE the RR! We have never stayed in POR, but we stayed in POFQ and the POR side looked so beautiful! With the multiple bus stops you should be good! So, about your feet. I have found that it is all about the shoes! In 2010 my feet hurt so bad we ended up not even using our last day of park tickets! So, for our last trip I started researching shoes and I found Orthaheel shoes (they have just changed their brand to Vionic but I understand they are the same shoes). They are AMAZING! I like to wear sandals in the heat not tennis shoes. They are very expensive, but so worth it. I got a pair for myself and Bob last year and my feet did not hurt at all. They are made for people with feet issues, and conform to your feet as you wear them. The first two weeks of wearing them you will not notice a difference, but wear them a lot for the first to weeks and they will conform to your foot and be the best walking shoes (or sandals) you have ever had!

Thanks for the tip on the shoes!! I looked them up and really not that pricey for sneakers, only a little more than I pay now! Pretty sure I'll buy them! So probably best to buy now and wear some before the trip to break them in, right?

Love the Lilo dresses! So adorable, I totally want one myself now! lol Yay lists! I have one going. Everytime I see someone mention something good in a TR, PTR or just a thread I add it on.I haven't yet split it up yet into different categories although I'm sure that will happen! For feet, I have read a few threads and right now I plan on picking up some peppermint lotion to put on them nightly and also maybe spend some time with them elevated each night(against a wall). But there were tons of ideas, I should have book marked them. Although I'm sure a new one(or four) will pop between now and then. That is such an awesome idea for easter eggs! I love pins!!

Peppermint! Great idea! I have some essential
Oil I can bring to add to my foot soak!

Haha! I always get a smile on my face when I see your replies!

Yes! I have seen the Go Walk and I almost bought some the other day. My MIL wore those last year and swear by them. My only thing is they weren't super supportive. But they were comfy... I need to read some reviews and do comparisons with the shoes people have mentioned. And def looking at the wicking socks!!

Thanks soo much for the feet advice! It's all going on the list and I have started walking!! And I can't wear the shoes I make either! Well not in Disney! I have made myself a pair I can wear for shorter periods of time!

Boerne is right outside San Antonio! I am close
To Kerrville, 45 min drive, my hubs used to work there! Not very close to the Dallas area though, about a 4-5hr drive. Texas is BIG, lol!

Hello friends! I have a few things to share today with you all! I did a little shopping this weekend and found some fun stuff I think you may like!

First off, I didn't buy one of these (yet...) but how adorable are these hats I found at Claire's!?!?!? They have built in pony tails!!! EEEP!

I just love them and the little details on them! So cute!!! They were like $16.95 I believe.

Anywho, I went in that shop for earrings, but, of course, left with Disney stuff too... I picked up these fun headbands in the clearance area for $3 a piece! The zipper pouch was from Michaels for a buck and I plan to keep my pins in it! ;)

You guys have NO IDEA how excited I was to find that Lambie head band! It's perfect for Maddie's Halloween costume! I was planning on making one, but this was so much easier. I am thinking for the rest of her costume I will just do white cotton shorts, maybe the longer ones from the boys area, and a white tee with the pink tutu. Do you think people will be able to tell she is Lambie like that? I want easy, moveable costumes for the park, so I dont want to do a full-out lamb costume or anything too puffy.

I also got to some more crafting... the girls HS outfits are done!

I LOVE them! I cannot wait until our H&V breakfast and they get to meet Sofia and Doc in these! It's going to be so great!! Yeeeeeeee! :yay:

I ended up finding some glitter tee paint like I have been using so I did the design in white, then went over it with the glitter and the result was PERFECT! I love it! I didn't want the outfits too over the top, because the hats are the main thing here, so I am pretty stoked how these turned out! I love how they match but are opposites on the colors too!!

Also, my friend is done with the Lilo dresses, she basically made me peasant dresses with red fabric and each day I have been adding the leaf pattern on myself with fabric paints, so far, so good...

I think I prefer adding the pattern myself bc I get to place the leaves exactly where they are on Lilos dress, versus buying patterened fabric that was like $16 a yard! Yikes! :thumbsup2

Other than that I have just been trying to get things together in my head which results in a lot of lists. I am a list person. LoL! :rotfl2:

List #1: Things I Still Need To Purchase For the Trip
  • Airfare
  • MNSSHP Tickets
  • TTFDP Tickets
  • Stroller Rental
  • Memory Maker

List #2: Shirts I Still Need To Make
  • Plane Shirt (Maddie needs a new one, the rest of ours still fit)
  • Mickey Bar Shirts
  • Costumes
  • Kissing Shirts (Me & the Hubs)
  • Mickey LOVE shirts (Me & the Hubs)
  • Dis Junior Shirts (Me & the Hubs)
  • Ghost Mickey Shirt (IF we add the extra day(s))

List #3: Things To Start Picking Up Here & There
  • Travel Laundry Pods
  • Coffee Pods
  • Breakfast/Snack Items for In Room
  • PINS
  • Collapsible Laundry Bins
  • Mole Skin

Haha, no judging me by my insane list making, that's just the tip of the iceberg people! :lmao:

Okay, so some other random things in my head...

Does anyone have some recommendations of things I can do on the trip to help my feet!! Seriously, on our last two park days last trip my feet were hurting BAD, and we only did 6 park days!! This time we are doing at least 10, possibly 12!!! I am SCARED! Like really. We went to DC once and my feet got so bad that I was crawling to my room, true story. Being pushed in a wheel chair is not an option if it gets too bad bc we have to push the kids in the stroller, so I am at a loss.

I know I read on someones TR about a special foot soak they used each day, but I can not remember what it was or whose TR is was, so someone help me out, I was also thinking about getting some of these special socks that help with blood flow that runners use...anyone have any info on that? And then I was going to bring my foot ball massager as well. Its also another reason I would like to upgrade to Mod resort, hot tub!! Does wonders for an achy body!! Any other tips would be MUCH appreciated!

Also on POR....I am really leaning towards the Preferred room. But I was just reading today that sometimes the RR's are the only ones included in FD... so we will just have to see.

Truth is I much prefer the RR buildings and rooms over the theming in the AB Preferred rooms, but I can deal with that. If we do have to book a RR I am going to request Riverview in hopes of being close to the bridge that connects to the main building. I also didnt realize they had several bust stops at POR, so now I am feeling better. We really wont have much need to go to the main building every day if we dont want to, we will have a coffee maker in room here and bring some snack foods, so we could just walk to the closest bus stop.

Ha, I find it amusing how much I am dwelling on this considering its a huge IF, depending on the fall sales, lol...but I like to be prepared!!!

How's everyone doing??

A couple of suggestions - As far as your feet go, the best advice I can give is to start walking NOW. Take the girls out for short walks and gradually build up to where you can walk for 2 or 3 miles. DH and I did this last year and had absolutely NO feet problems at all. We did not walk over the winter and when we went in March, my feet were killing me by the end of the day. Same shoes as we wore in September last year. As far as shoes go, I did what Lois did and went to a local running shoe store and got fitted for athletic shoes - mine are Saucony, but the brand doesn't matter as much as getting something that fits YOU. We also bought several pairs of good cushioned running socks - I think the brand was Balega - they were expensive, but well worth the price.

Also, bring an extra pair of socks to the parks with you and mid day change your socks - its amazing what a fresh pair of socks will do. I don't usually wear flip flops in the parks, but I do take them with me for walking around the resort - I found some at Walmart called Okabashi that have an arch support and are very comfortable - I wear them all summer at home. They have a website you can order from too - and they were not very expensive.

Another tip I learned here on the Dis was to take a sponge and squirt dish soap on it. When its dry, cut it into about 6 pieces and put in a baggie. You can use them to wash out your resort mugs - and they last for quite a while.

I love the outfits you have for the girls! They are going to get lots of attention from the cms!

I've been lurking, reading, and wishing I had half your creativity when it comes to outfits and details...

But I wanted to pop in with a suggestion for your feet. I also have foot (and knee!) problems, so I need to wear comfy, supportive shoes at Disney World, too! Before our last trip, back in 2012, I'd read about some really super cushy, supportive socks, the brand name was Thorlo. They were expensive enough that I nearly choked when I looked them up online, but I bought a few to try out, because I knew that if I lost a day or more at Disney to pain in my feet/knee, I'd be losing out on a lot more money - and fun! I was amazed at how well they worked. No blisters, no hot spots, and my feet felt almost as good at the end of the day as they had at the start. Amazing! It might be worth checking into, as something else to keep your feet in good shape on your trip! I'm planning a Disney trip in October, myself - and on my to-do list is a few more pairs... :)

I meant to add in my previous post that I have feet issues too - I have plantar fasciitis and knee problems - I thought I was going to have to have surgery to remove/repair a torn meniscus in my left knee when we got back from WDW, but I had absolutely no knee pain while we were there - or any issues with the fasciitis.

You can soak your feet in Epsom salts each evening - you can fill the tub with hot water and add the Epsom salts - makes your feet feel better.

If you do a search on running socks, there is a list of the top 11 running socks - Thorlo is on it as well as Balega, and a bunch of others. All are expensive though.

I have a pair of Converse sneakers that I love, but they don't love my feet. Absolutely no arch support in them, and after wearing for a very short while, my feet hurt, so I understand about not wearing flat soled shoes! I added a pair of arch support insoles to them and I can wear them for a longer period of time, but I'd never be able to wear them all day in the parks.

Boy, THIS is the key! Take it a bit easier since you'll be there so many days. The girls will be better able to cope as well and won't get burned out and have melt downs if you slow down. It is VERY hard to do, especially when you first get there and are so excited to be there! But you'll settle in after a couple of days and it actually gets easier to slow down. It is soooo nice to have lots of days!!

Tess is giving you some great advise! In fact, you're getting lots of good advice from lots of people. That's one thing I just love about the DIS. Everyone is so willing to share their tips to help make your trip more magical.

I'm so glad you are already walking. That will help so much. And, yes, Texas is BIG!!! Our twin nephews live in Austin and that's quite a hike for a visit from Dallas.

Have a great day!!

I just heard that the dates for the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party were released and I can't remember if you booked yours yet? Just saw it this morning!

After our STL Dismeet/play date where Lori and Jackie raved about you, I knew I had to find your PTR and check it out! I'm LOVING all the shoes and shirts! You are sooooo talented! And I'm insanely jealous that you will all be there at the same time! I'm loving all of your plans and can't wait to see more/share in the excitement as the days tick by!
