Walk In Showers

I would like to book either the Contemporary or Grand Floridian. My concern is that I have limited mobility and can no longer lift my legs high enough to get into a bathtub so I need a walk in shower. Does anyone know if the rooms now have walk in showers or can you request one? I really don’t want to take an ADA room away from someone that really needs it. Thanks for any help.

If you end up with the tower/tub combo at the contemporary you’d definitely have a problem the tub wall is pretty high up. I think wilderness lodge has a category for a room with a walk in shower I think it’s DVC I haven’t stayed in it so not sure if I’m remembering correctly

Yes you are 100% correct about the Cooper Creek Villas at the WL. Once @Greatgrandma crosses the DVC boundary there are many room options that include a walk-in shower option.

A good example are the Deluxe Studios and the Polynesian longhouses all have a tub / shower and a separate shower

If you would consider a South Garden Wing room at the Contemporary most of those rooms have a shower only for almost all the rooms. The rooms in the A-frame tower are mostly tub / shower combination.

I second this. I stayed in the Garden Wing and liked it a lot and I know my room had a walk-in shower. I do think most of the rooms in the Garden Wing do.

But I think the only way to know for sure is to book a CCV Studio with Walk-In Shower since it's a bookable category.

I’ve stayed at a garden wing room years ago and kind of liked the seclusion. Plus it’s a short walk to the main building.

If you can not safely lift your legs into the tub, then YOU need an ADA room!

As OP mentioned the Villas at GF - NOT the resort villas very important but the villas which is the building behind the pool it is a separate booking Cat. Poly all DVC villas can book through Disney deluxe villa have a walk in shower as well as a tub shower and WL cooper creek DVC has a walk in shower cat. All are available through rental or usually Disney direct will have them. Also any one bedroom or 2 bedroom villa (DVC) will have a walk in shower.

I am in the same situation as the OP (which is why I found this thread) and I will say that an ADA room is definitely a wrong choice for me. I've tried them. I can "settle" for a tub with grab bars (getting in and out with much trepidation), but simply stepping into a shower stall is much safer. The most unsafe room I ever had was a roll-in shower stall. It was like walking on ice. Plus you have the shower curtain battle, which is actually worse than when in a tub/shower.

I'm also in the same position as the OP regarding getting into tubs, and I don't know why you say that "an ADA room is definitely the wrong choice for me". A tub with rails is a kind of ADA room which I reserve all the time. Somehow grabbing the grab bars makes it possible for me to get into/out of a tub/shower combo. However, one time recently a room with grab bars wasn't available, so I had a regular room and I requested a shower chair (which I'm told are available at every Disney hotel, although I haven't confirmed this). By sitting sideways on the shower chair, I could manually lift my legs, and swing them into the tub.

I think I didn't put my words together well. I'm just saying that a shower stall is easier for me than a tub with grab bars. And a tub with grab bars is better than a tub without grab bars.
