A freind at work will be at the world for Thanksgiving and staying at the Boardwalk. She was told it's a short walk (10 minutes) to the monorail from the BW. How far is it??

That's not quite right. Depending on walking speed and crowds, you might be able to make it in about 15 minutes (from the door of the BW to the monorail entrance).

Plus one very important point: to walk from the BW to the Epcot monorail station, you could need a park ticket because you need to walk through Epcot.

Yes, you need a park ticket because you have to go through the turnstiles. It's a good 15 minutes at a quick pace, then you will be quite winded when you get on the monorail.

Using the absolutely shortest path, it's just over a mile from the rear door of the Boardwalk to the monorail station. Between dodging traffic, going through the Epcot gates, not getting off path, etc. it would darn unusual for someone to walk it in 15 minutes. I think 25 minutes is more reasonable.

I agree with this. It's 3 - 5 minutes from BW to IG entrance, a couple minutes there to get through the gates, 15 minutes from IG back to the front entrance of Epcot, and then another couple minutes to get up to the monorail station.

Thanks everyone, I thought it was a longer walk but wanted to be sure...
I'll pass on the information.:goodvibes

On our second trip to WDW a number of years ago we had the brilliant idea of going through EPCOT to catch the monorail with the goal of ending up at MK. The main reason we made this choice is that DW is in a wheelchair and hates to load on the bus especially a crowded one. From our room to MK took about an hour and a half and I am a fast walker. This was also before all the post 911 security stuff. It was also a fairly slow day in the parks. While we enjoyed the journey we both felt it wasted lots of time.

had to walk to the kennel - same area - but on the side. several times a day -

took around 10 to 15 minutes to get to IG. once through IG it took me around 20 to 25 minutes to get there.

kept in mind that people will walk in front of you, will stop in front of you, and do everything to slow you down (not intentionally - just people being people).
be carefully with little ones - they do not pay attention and they can easily jump in front of you.

so I would leave at least an hour to do this.

it is much faster to ride the MK bus to MK. if it is over at the TTC station she wants to get - then just get on the monrail at the MK.
