We will be staying at Paradise pier. I hear it is a long walk to the parks. No problem for myself but how about a young grandma.

It is actually closer to the parks than Disneyland Hotel if you cut through Grand Californian. It's just under half a mile to the center of the esplanade in front of Disneyland if you cut through the GCH lobby, and it's even less to enter DCA through the GCH entrance.

Well, I guess that depends on what you consider a young Gma.....lol I'm a 40 year old Gma, never had a problem with the walk. :) But yes, if you cut thru the GCH it's a much shorter walk. :)

I recommend catching the monorail in DTD, it cuts the walk way down.

It about the same distance and almost always much less time going through the GCH.

Cross Disneyland Dr, at the northwest corner of the PPH. Follow the sidewalk into the GCH. Go in the front doors and make a left around the registration desk. Go along the desk at the end is a sign to DCA that will send you along the lobby, go strait for DL.

Good info! Is cutting through the GCH lobby possible in the early morning? We'll be going to the park around 6:30 to get to MM. Also, will the staff there mind at all if you're not a guest?

No problem at all.

Just know if you are not a resort guest you will not be able to use the DCA entrance from the grand for DCA opening, you will have to go strait to DTD and through security to the esplande to use the front gates.

Oh, we'll be staying at Paradise Pier if that helps? :confused3 I"m trying to find a complete map of the GCH to get a more specific feel of the lay out.

If you're staying at any of the 3 on-site hotels, you can use the GCH park entrance to DCA, so you'll be fine - you just show your room key at the turnstile.

Cool, thanks. I'm assuming that it also means we can walk through the GCH lobby in the early morning to get to DL and not get dirty looks? ;)

Yup, no problem! I stayed at PPH last month and went to the parks early and walked home late. We closed down the parks at midnight and had no problem walking through the GCH lobby. Once it's really late, though, they had closed one of the wrought iron gates that cuts through the GCH garden, but we were able to walk a bit further and go through the side entrance into the hotel.

I stayed at PPH twice and always walked through GCH. Just showed my key to get into DCA.

If Gramma is young enough to walk around Disneyland for 10-hours, she's certainly young enough to walk from PPH. It's not that far and it's a really nice walk, too, so it helps keep your mind off of the distance.

I stayed at the PPH in February 09. We found a short cut threw the parking lot just to the left of The PPH. So just exit PPH, go left towards the street to cross walk over to CGH. Instead of crossing the street towards CGH head toward the parking lot. Walk across the parking lot towards the back of the AMC theaters. You'll see a sidewalk that will curve around the back of the theaters and land you right in between AMC theaters and the Lego store. *We loved this route! It was a perfect short cut to DTD and for MM it was perfect.*

This is NOT the shortcut. This is the official, signed, way to get to the parks while getting you to walk through all of the retail madness of downtown disney.

This way is LONGER than going out the FRONT door of PPH, crossing the street, going into the lobby of the Grand, hanging a left to walk down the long corridor, turn right out the automatic sliding glass doors, and following that short path out into the last part of DTD.

Trust me. I thought that the parking lot way WAS the shortcut I'd read about on the Dis, until I got back from our first bonafide Disneyland trip, and when I finally to do the real shortcut on our second trip, I inwardly cried for the extra walking I'd done on our first trip.
