Wal Mart ..........

Have you seen some of the people that go to Disney World ???

Walmart is a "step up"..;)

Where I live, there is currently only 3 Walmarts close to me, and they're all roughly the same distance in terms of driving time which is (in regular, non-rush hour traffic) about 45 min-1 hour.

One of them, on 82nd avenue in Portland is the least well-kept store but it's still not that bad. It's the area itself that makes me not want to go there though .

The other two are equally as nice, both super stores. One is in Woodburn across the freeway from the outlets which I love going to but I end up spending a lot of money because there's a Nike and The North Face outlet there which spells trouble for me.

But, if I go to the third one, which is across the Columbia River and state line in Vancouver, there is an Ikea close by on the Portland side. So with that, I end up going to Ikea and spend money there too! Also, as it's in Washington, anything I get has a sales tax tacked to it. Oregon does not have a sales tax.

So basically, it's a no win-win for me. Luckily though, there's going to be Walmart in August or September 2010 in Forest Grove which is about a 20-25 minute drive away. Although it'll be a new store, the area itself can make it not so great... so we'll see.

There used to be the "people of the park" website but it's not there anymore. Good thing because some of that stuff on there was mean.

Precisely my point - I was speaking tongue-in-cheek..:goodvibes

I fail to see how a website such as that - or the "people of Walmart" site - is "funny".. Just like the sweeping generalizations made in regards to "all" Walmarts and the "types" of people who shop there - which seems to be such a popular topic on the CB..:sad2: It's so juvenile - something you might expect to find over on the Teen Board or some such place..

I didn't find "People of the Parks" funny, nor the photos on People of Wal-Mart that were making fun of their weight. But sometimes they have pictures of the oddest getups. THOSE I find funny.

Super Walmarts are nice. The regular ones I can do without, but I haven't felt threatened or disgusted in either location. I would in some of the stores you guys are describing, though. :scared1:
We have the Super WM, with other grocery stores in town ... the Super WM and another really nice regional grocery chain are what we go to the most. Like a PP said, it's well-lit. The aisles aren't cramped, I can find what I need (and I always buy more than what I even came in there for. I need help :rolleyes1), but the produce is really lacking compared to the regional place, and so is the ethnic section. The staff has always been really friendly and I recognize many of the greeters and we have some nice conversations too. I don't think our store would ever have boarded up windows or trash piling up in the parking lot!

Sometimes I see obnoxious teens, packs of guys, really loud families with troublesome kids, but they mostly keep to themselves and don't cause a major disturbance. The other regional place you'll find a slightly different, more affluent crowd - but our WM's really nice and you'll find people from that affluent crowd shopping there too.

We don't have a Walmart in NYC at all, in ANY of the 5 boroughs. We'd have to drive to New Jersey or to Long Island if we wanted to shop there. I've heard the Jersey one is ok, but the Long Island one (Valley Stream) is the one where people were trampled to death a few years ago on Black Friday.

I was looking at Walmart online, and their prices are good.

Well, since she lives in California, I'm going to assume it was out there. Just
because you have NEVER seen a walmart in that condition does not mean that out of the thousands of stores they have that one doesn't exist in that condition. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that it's true.

This walmart was actually in Virginia (I just moved to California last year)

This walmart was not always like that. When I was in elem. and middle school we would go there for school supplies a lot of the time. It got really bad about 5-6 years ago.

I don't know if it's gotten any better in the past year but I highly doubt it.

On the flip side, the walmart where I live now (in california) is actually very well kept and is a very nice store. But for me, it doesn't matter how nice a store it is, I will never shop there based on the many things that walmart has done so wrong.

I love walmart. And on this forum that is enough to get you crucified:rolleyes:. Both of our super walmarts are always well stocked, clean and the workers are friendly. I've never had a single problem ordering online with either it being shipped to my home or to the store for me to pick up.

I typically grocery shop at Aldi's, but I do buy a lot of my general items (light bulbs, soap, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, etc) at walmart or target but usually walmart. Why would I drive all over town picking up one or two things at specialty stores when I can get them all at walmart?

I do think some of the ridiculous costumes on people of walmart are funny, but I don't like it when they make fun of people's weight.
