Where do these people come from that show-up on the weekends???????? I think there is some hillbilly convention in the midwest. Now I remember why I usually go to Target. Oh well, just had to pick-up a few things before we leave in less than 36 hours :cool1::cool1::cool1:

We have one totally ghetto wal mart that I won't go to for any reason. A ways down the freeway is a new super walmart. I never thought I would do it but I shop there for groceries now on a regular basis. It is real nice, wide aisles and surprisingly friendly staff and people around to ask where stuff is. I would NEVER go on the weekend though and there are still some "interesting" people there but oh well. I have come to like it better then my regular grocery store as there is no crap blocking the aisles. The prices on the food are great as well. They don't stock everything I need so I still have to go to the regular grocery store which sucks now.

i'm always amused by these threads. i live in alabama which is, according to the rest of the country at least, one of the most hillbilly and redneck places you could ever imagine. i NEVER see anything unusual in my wal-mart. however, it is, as a PP said, a fairly new supercenter-well lit and well-stocked, friendly employees, wide aisles, great produce. i shop there at least once a week. occasionally, i'll see a child throw a tantrum or a teenager in booty shorts (cheeks actually peeking out) or pajama pants, but that's about it. my store must be one of the few normal ones, lol.

Alabama is the place I first went into a super center In Magnolia Springs or Foley I think. I was ALWAYS bashing walmart to my friend I was visiting so she took me there and I was SHOCKED at how nice it was. That gave me the guts to try our super center out here in CA. I do think walmarts vary store to store and the super centers are great.

Where do these Wal-Mart bashers come from that show up here on the DIS? ;)

Are you sure? Now MO is proud of our hillbilly heritage and it is celebrated in Branson. We have restaurants, hotels, and shows.

Kentucky up on the hollers is probably true blood hillbilly, the source.

But Alabama? I see that as "southern". I think you get a pass for hillbilly. As far as redneck, well rednecks are everywhere. Just check the golden words of Jeff Foxworthy. You might find yourself in there.

Oh and the OP may want to examine if she has any resemblence to her remark.:rotfl:

My WalMart maybe full of "hillbillies", I am at the foot of the Ozarks, but they are the nicest people to chat with. It is all about perspective.:)

Okay, What is this topic about? Can you please elaborate? It is all so general that no one knows what in the world you are talking about.

where I used to live everyone I knew wouldn't even drive in front of the walmart near us. Everyone would drive around teh shopping center just to avoid it. It was THAT bad.

There were always things on the floor, broken windows that were taped up etc. I went in once because Target was out of something I needed for school and walmart was a few stores down....i walked in and walked right out It was an embarassment especially since the rest of the shopping center was fairly nice (it had toys r us, target, BJs, plus some upscale expensive furniture stores.). and we lived in a fairly wealthy county.

The police were called fairly often to that walmart also.

It sounds judgmental but it was a certain group of people who shopped at that walmart.

Are you kidding me? What are you talking about? I have NEVER seen a WalMart with broken windows or any unsavory characters. Was it closed? Where are you?

Our WM is so hoity-toity that Target would be a step down.:rolleyes1
If you want to live & shop like you are in the big city, you should have stayed there, instead of moving to a small Illinios town!:dance3:
We go to the WM supercenter about 20 miles up the road, as it still has a regular feel & the prices aren't jacked way up. I mean it is WM after all!!!:rolleyes1

I don't care for Walmart-we have 2 within a few minutes of each other- I just don't like the people that are shopping in those. I had to pick up things for a thing at school and they said to get the water and soda at walmart since it was cheaper there- so I went.
I find a boy in a panic running around saying mom, mom i can't find you- he was about 11 or 12 years old but he was autistic. I get him to stop running, bring him to the cashier by electronics and ask them to page his mom, they tell me to bring him up front to customer service. I'm sorry but customer service is right by the front door and I do not want anyone thinking that I am walking out the door with their child-just my luck they would show up as I am near the door! And he was also s runner so it was hard even keeping him in one place!
So I get them to page her- then 5 minutes later page her again- then again- then again. Finally she shows up about 20 minutes later--nice that you got your shopping done while I am here with your paniced kid!

Now we have one that doesn't like Walmart b/c people with disabled children shop there! Lovely how true colors shine.

They're home a lot, because it is hard to find a new job, given that Wal-Mart has moved so many jobs to China. ;)

ROFLMAO- and you got THAT out of my post about me helping a young boy who's PARENT couldn't be bothered to come look for him?? Amazing.......I had NO problem with the nice young boy- only the PARENT who couldn't be bothered parenting him!

I only go shopping at Wal-Mart in the early morning hours during the week. We actually have a new Super Wal-Mart that is very nice.

There are 3 wal-marts in our immediate shopping area. One, while nice, has terrible customer service, so we don't shop there. The one we go to most often is currently expanding into a Super Wal-Mart. Again, it's not too bad (as far as some Wal-Marts go), but forget about getting there between 11am-4pm on a Saturday or Sunday - you'll be parking in the next county!

I've seen some weird people at Wal-Mart, but, honestly, I've seen weird people in Nordstrom, too!

Ever seen the web site peopleofwalmart.com?

Yes, I have and I've been to many, many Wal-Marts in several different states and have NEVER seen people like that. And even if I did, it wouldn't stop me from shopping at Wal-Mart. Just because of the way they choose to dress does not make them a bad person. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Exactly!

I didn't take her post that way at all. I read it as she saw a child that was looking for the mom and couldn't find her. She took the time to help this child find his mother. Don't know why it took so long for mom to get to her child, but I believe that aprilgail2 did a very nice thing!!!!
