I hate my local Wal-mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yesterday evening we were having homemade ice cream after church service. I have an ice cream maker and volunteered to make some.

Couldn't decide if I wanted to do chocolate ice cream or orange sherbert......

Decided I'd buy another freezer (have one already and we like homemade ice cream) and do both.

On the way home I run into Wal-mart to grab the things I need, including ICE CREAM SALT and another ice cream freezer.

Look all over the store two times. Can't find anything. Look in seasonal, groceries, lawn & garden, housewares..........not even a box of ice cream salt.

Finally locate an employee on the floor and inquire as to where I might find these items.

Her reply, "Oh, I don't stock those items this time of year."

Then she said, "you can go to Walmart.com and order them.

I was so upset "THIS TIME OF YEAR"....................HELLO LADY.........IT'S THE MIDDLE OF JULY........BBQ'S, PICNICS, FAMILY GET TOGETHERS, CAMPING.........ALL PERFECT OCCASIONS FOR HOMEMADE ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really hate that this store came in and closed down the local (chain)grocery store.......at least I could have gotten the ice cream salt there.

Unbelievable!!!!!!

About 3 and 1/2 weeks ago we ordered a cake from same store in above post for my son's 12th birthday (which happens to be today). Well yesterday evening at about 5:30 PM the phone rings. It's the Walmart bakery. They don't have the kit for the cake we ordered. Party is Star Wars themed and they don't have anything Star Wars at all.

DS reluctantly agrees that Transformers will be okay.

I hang up and call a couple of other Walmart stores in the area and find one that has said cake kit. They (the bakery) are about to close and won't have time to do the cake for me but the lady is kind enough to say that if I want to come pick it up she will give it to me and then we can put on the other cake.

Call first bakery back and relay this info. "Well, we don't have a picture or anything to go by." "We got a new book and it's not in there."

I call the manager relay all above information to him.

Bakery calls me back. "Which Star Wars cake kit did the other store have?" I responded that I wasn't sure, didn't think to ask, didn't really care at this point as long as it was Star Wars. Then he asked "well do you want me to call the other bakery and find out which one they had."





Whatever happened to customer service. Why wait until 5:30 pm the evening before the party to call and relay that you don't have what was ordered? Why not call the other area stores yourself to make sure the customer receives what is requested?

I seriuosly want to start a website titled "why I hate Walmart . com"

I will not order a cake from this store again. I should have learned my lesson a couple of years ago when we did Indiana Jones and the same thing happened.

We shop in walmart all the time....w/ rules!

Rule #1: We will not buy any meat from them
#2: We do not buy lunch meat/cheese from the deli
#3: We do not purchase any breads/cakes/bakery items made by walmart
#4: Never ask a walmart employee any questions

We have reasons for these rules among them being, roaches running across the deli counter, meat that is recalled generally has been sold at walmart (DH says ), stale, moldy bread repeatedly, and of course the deer in the headlights look you get from employees when speaking to them

We get cleaning supplies, household items, boxed items like cereal & rice, canned items, water and diet pepsi...things walmart can't ruin

Ridiculous! I remember shopping at a local discount store a few years back, mid-July, looking for a nozzle for my garden hose. I couldn't find them anywhere! I located the manager, who told me this:

"I stopped stocking them, because they kept selling out!"

Don't blame walmart. Blame execs that will not pay a decent wage to keep decent employees. It can, and has, happened at any store.

Apparently, they don't sell very many ice cream makers this time of year. Go figure. Perhaps, they have found that most ice cream makers sell in spring and that by mid-July these items sell poorly in the stores and better on-line.

I don't fault a store for not stocking everything all the time. Even at WalMart, there is only so much shelf space. They have to make decisions to stock those things that are most likely to sell at any given moment.

We're lucky. The deli and meat department at our local Super WalMart is awesome. Further, I have yet to find any bad baked goods on the shelves. They do sell day-old stuff at reduced prices in a seperate area, but I haven't seen anything that's actually gone bad.

I think that questions asked of any store employee need to be tempered with the knowledge of that person's scope. We've had terrific luck asking just about any WalMart employee where anything is in the store, but I wouldn't bother discussing technical specifications with them.

I went to Wal Mart for the first time in awhile last Saturday and started to buy a few things. I wasn't excited about the prices but thought I would buy the things while I was there. I went toward the grocery section and couldn't even get though the aisles, junk thrown everywhere, people standing around talking, some woman was bent over showing her crack while she was digging through clearance. I said enough was enough, abandoned the cart, and walked out.

I went to the Meijer about 1/2 mile away, the five things I left in my cart at Wal Mart were all cheaper at Meijer, including a pet item that was $11.00 less at Meijer than Wal Mart. I walked out with a full cart of items for $50. I learned my lesson, don't waste the 45 minutes at WalMart.

When I worked even for minimum wage I took pride in my job and made sure I was a great employee. I'm not saying you personally feel this way, but I can't stand the people who have the idea that because they don't get paid a top wage that they don't have to make any effort to be best employee for the job. Its not the execs fault that people have poor work ethics.

When I worked even for minimum wage I took pride in my job and made sure I was a great employee. I'm not saying you personally feel this way, but I can't stand the people who have the idea that because they don't get paid a top wage that they don't have to make any effort to be best employee for the job. Its not the execs fault that people have poor work ethics.

Just curious, where in Tennessee are you? I'm in Rutherford County and have ordered DD's birthday cake from Wal-Mart a time or two. Not any more though, we always go to Homestyle Bakery in Antioch their cakes are delicious and beatiful

I was young but if I worked right now and had a job, any job that I was being paid to do, I would be the best employee no matter what I was being paid. I would be thankful that they hired me and gave me a paycheck every week because there are plenty of other people out there that could do that job. If a company is going to invest anything in me, I darn sure will deliver, but thats how I was raised. My age, my pay rate, or any motivation from my manager has nothing to do with my attitude, my pride or my work ethic. I don't feel entitled to get a paycheck, or a raise because I show up and I'm on the clock, I feel entitled to get a paycheck and eventually a raise because I'm there doing my job, and doing it well. Unfortunately I don't think alot of people, especially in retail or other low paying jobs feel the same.

I SOOO despise Wal-Mart! I refuse to shop there even tho some of their prices are cheaper. The store is so huge, never stocked, produce is terrible and my biggest complaint - the check out lines are very long. I complained one time several years ago and was actually sent a $25 gift card. Nice but it just doesn't make up for the time I waste in there. I miss the first Wal-Mart's - the one that was small.

First, studies have long shown that money is not a motivator. Second, while it's true that one of the toughest things about being a manager/supervisor is to maintain motivation, I reject the idea that motivation is primarily the responsibility of management.
When you take a job, you learn what that job consists of (and how much you will be paid). If you are unwilling to do your best at that job (for that money), you should go elsewhere.

I suppose that these slacker employees do make an argument that management has failed, but not like you intended. Management has failed if they allow people who are unwilling to do their jobs to remain. From the posts in this thread, it looks like some WalMart management has failed in this respect. I don't believe that my local one has, however.

The pet item was a basic retractable dog leash for a dog over 70 lbs. $17.34 at WM, $6.99 at Meijer (on sale reg 13.99).

I think I have to agree with Mikeee on this one. I'm sorry, but I think the whole "Your reward for your hard work should be the satisfaction of a job well done" thing is a crock. A successful business a two-way street. An employee does his/her job well, the employer rewards him/her.
Sure, if you're employed to do a job, you should try and do the best job you can. And pay/raises should be based on how well you perform. But the problem with that is that sometimes you work your behind off, make sacrifices for the company, excel at your job, etc. and never see any recognition for it. I can certainly see where the morale would be shot in a place like that. Employees begin wondering why they should make sacrifices for their employers when the employer is not willing to reciprocate. It is 100% the responsibility of management to keep good employees. If you want your customers to be happy, your employees must also be happy.
