We are planning to rent a car for the first time for our trip in April 09 and wanted to get groceries at Wal-Mart where is the closest one to OKW and is there a Sam's Club near??

I can answer Walmart, we are at SSR now and have gone to the one just outside the west gate. It is pretty easy and only about 10 minutes away. It is a super walmart. After leaving Walt Disney World turn right onto 535 and follow it straight for about 5 miles.

Thanks so much!!!I figured WalMart would be the most reasonably priced? How did you find their prices - meat selection??

Sams Club is on 192 - turn left off of 535 and it will be on the left next to Super-Target. Can't remember how far down 192 from 535.

Just don't by meat at Wal-Mart. There is a Winn Dixie relatively close by and it just looks better. Wal-Mart fine for package goods but we always by Poduce and meat from local markets or major chains.

We went to the Walmart on Turkey Lake Road. It was pretty new and about 10 minutes away. They had a lot of cute souvenirs really cheap, too.

Yep. We went to the Winn Dixie tonight and it is WONDERFUL and reasonable too. 5 minutes from SSR, tops. :thumbsup2

If you go to Winn-Dixie, be sure to sign up and get their discount card. Otherwise you'll be paying higher prices for everything.

From OKW the easiest and quickest way to get to the super WM on 535 is to turn left on Disney Vacation Club Way, then left on Bonnet Creek. Take a Right on Buena Vista Way and follow the signs to 536 (Epcot Center Drive) going away from WDW. Cross over I-4 and then you get to 535, turn Right. Somewhat closer and much less traffic than going out to 535 on Hotel Plaza Blvd. From BWV take Victory Way to Oceola Parkway and exit on Poinciana then turn left and it's right there (small toll). From AKV, just head out Oceola Parkway.

Thanks Bill. Yep. The girl at the register was nice enough to use her card for us and give us an application which we filled out and did.

I can't believe I've thrown so much money away at Gooding's for all these years and that Winn Dixie was literally just a stone's throw down the street. :(

A lot of these places will give visitors the discount as a guest without registering. I know Harris Teeter does (applicable to places like HH). Publix doesn't have a discount card.

We use the Publix's and find the one down by the GaylordPalms and 192 the easiest to get to and get out of.

The one by the Outlets is a pain at 535. We use another one when staying on the West side like AKV.

I am a huge fan of Super Target. But this past Sept we shopped there (we were with guests and didn't want to go to a different store). I was surprised at how expensive the food items were. No more Super Target for me. Publix and Sam's Club only.

A good way to find anything near WDW is to go to google maps and enter "walmart near 32830" to find the nearby Walmarts.

Just substitute Sams, Target, Publix, or whatever else you are looking for.

We didn't buy many groceries at Walmart...what we bought seemed reasonable. I have been using the Winn Dixie in years past, but took some advise and did comparison shopping with the Publix previously mentioned. On stuff like milk publix was about a $1 cheaper, as well as several other items. I think our total bill ended up probably 10-15 cheaper at publix, but as always, Winn Dixie still had some sales that beat publix.

How far is Winn Dixie from BLT?
