Only go to Walmart under EXTREME circumstances...and that's a couple of times a year at most (Christmastime).

Target and Wal-Mart comp shop each other so their prices are going to be extremely similar in the consumable items that everyone buys. After that, I think the similarity ends and the choice is up to the person doing the shopping.

For those Diser's in Hawaii and Alaska....be patient, Target is coming to both states in 2008!

For those of you without a Target near by....be patient, Target has their sights set on 1900 different locations in the United States, so one of those sights may be near you.

Target for me. If nothing else, it's cleaner.

I prefer Target, but Walmart is usually cheaper. Sometimes a lot cheaper. It just depends what I am shopping for.

I do not buy cloths at WalMart usually, YUK, they never hold up much.

Target gave me my first job (after food service job). I worked at T7 in Lakewood, Colo. - now torn down. I am loyal to Target. Plus, its a Minnesota company!

I go to both. Our Wal-Mart is clean, has nice people working there and has a decent produce section and deli. They are also quite a bit less expensive. Target has nicer things though, better meat and decent casual clothes.

I like that our Wal-Mart is open 24 hours. It's fun to go really late sometimes even though then you have to dodge the huge boxes the stockers are moving around and the guys pushing those huge floor buffers and vacuums. ;)

If Target did 1/2 the business Walmart did in a day there store would be trashed too....

ANd it has a LOT to do with the clintele that shop at the stores -some Walmarts are very clean worked in one 5 yrs ago that was in a nice small city 2-3,000 people so it was kept up very well. On the other hand there were about 4 other WM's in the area that were horrible -ones I wouldn't step foot into -of course I wouldnt' be driving on that side of town for any reason either.

Targets are ONLY put in good neighborhoods where people take care of things and not throw merchandise on the floor - drop it & not pick it up, etc...

If you're comparing cleanliness then yep as a general rule Target wins, if you compare prices, of course Walmart wins. And variety and return policy. Our Targets around here don't have the grocerys but I've shopped @ 2 that do & they just seem sky high..actually ours carries a few groceries ---how can I forget? Guess I blocked it out when I read the price of mile...$4.00 + for a gallon of milk!!!!! The gas stations aren't even THAT expensive---come one NOW THAT"S RIDICULOUS - when it's $2.97 @ WM & even Walgreens its #3.17 most days - sometimes less on sale.

I try to buy grocery items at local butchers and markets. I'll buy paper/ cleaning goods at the Dollar Store and we're in a rural area, so I buy pet supplies at our local farmer's co-op.

I do shop at both Wal Mart and Target. Wal Mart more often just because it's closer. But that's only once or twice a month.

Target is a lot cleaner and has a more interesting selection usually.. but it's about 20 minutes away from me

There's a Super Walmart less than 10 minutes away and it is always a mess.. it's kind of in a scechy area as well, so I make a point to go while it's still light out.. can't complain about the prices though

Super Target ROCKS!!!

I am surprised at the number of posters that say there is a big price differance between the 2 stores. Here, they are both either the same or very close within a few cents of each other.

Has anyone else noticed that WalMarts have started painting their stores the SAME COLOR as SuperTarget?????

Beige/Taupe color building with a red stripe around the building.(Walmart used to be a greyish blue with a country blue colored sign with white writing.)

The Walmart Superstores on SR 535 in Orlando and the one at the corner of John Young and Sand Lake in Orlando are both Beige and red in an attempt to look like Target.

I won't step a foot into Walmart - and this was true since before my son started working for Target. I don't know about elsewhere in this country, but you almost can't compare the two stores - the Targets are sooo much nicer.

Target is waaaaay better, no question in my mind.
I do shop at Wal Mart for certain things because their prices can be unbelieveably cheap...but Target is an overall better "experience." Cleaner, less crowded, fully stocked, and nicer employees. Target does have really good quality clothes, and "Target" brand items. I love our Target because its a Target Greatland and carries food and all sorts of items. Archer Farms is one of the best "cheap" food brands I have ever had!

Target no contest. Wal-Mart is too ghetto for me!

I like them both, we have a nice Wal-mart near me that's clean with friendly people. But I think the edge goes to Super Target, I just love that place.

Target only. Walmart is trying to put the retail world out of business. Just about every employee they have cannot afford to purchase health insurance. Not a good choice to shop at. They have low prices at the expense of everyone else. :sad2:

Definitely Target all the way. Here Wal-Mart and Target are priced pretty closely. Whenever I have gone into a Wal-Mart it is so hard to find things - the merchandise is in poor shape - it just isn't worth it. Target has a "nicer" store to shop in. We definitely prefer it. Whoever said the food in their Target is expensive - I am surprised. We drive farther to go to a Super Target to do our shopping since the prices and selection are so much better that the several supermarkets closer to our house.

In our area I much prefer Target. We also have a few Super Target's in the area that sell groceries, though we don't grocery shop there. The Wal-Mart's in our area are dirty and messy.

That being said, when I was in college the local Super Wal-Mart was HUGE and very clean and well kept up. The local Target there was tiny and never had a full stock of items. I think it must vary a lot by area.

Target without a doubt. I read a few posts quick saying Walmart had better prices. I don't really agree because Target has a much better clearance system. Items seem to be there for a short period of time before they hit clearance.

My Target is not a Super one but it does have a lot of groceries so that's where I do most of my shopping. And you can't beat the prices at their snack bar - it's DD's favorite lunch place :)

I have a Walmart in town but will spend the $6 round trip on gas to go to the Target 20 miles away.
