Wal-Mart Black Friday Vent

This is should how it should have been done in our store, but it wasn't. As I said my DH & I were in the store at 4:30 til almost 5. We decided to go home and be ready for later. If we had seen any lines starting 1 of us would have stayed and waited, while the other went home and changed. They we would have changed roles. We did not have trouble be in a line. The balloon for the Emerson was not up when were there in the afternoon. At least in your case, they did not hand out the tickets until midnight. If our store had done this I would not have had a problem at all. But they gave the tickets out prior to 8pm and that is what we have a problem with.

But we still got in line 4 hours ahead of time, at 8pm. You needed to line up early to get the tickets because you had to be standing on a numbered space to get one. They had enough spaces for the number items available, the spaces for the TV we got were gone by 9:20. So showing up at 11pm, wouldn't have gotten you a TV at Walmart either. Once the spaces are filled up it doesn't really matter when they hand out the tickets. Sorry you missed out, but now you know for next year.

They didn't have tickets for that tv at our Walmart, they must have had a lot of them because they gave out tickets for everything else. We were in the $248 laptop line by 9 pm and we were last, until a few people left the line. I really wanted the xbox/kinect combo, but all 96 were spoken for by just before 9pm, but that was a 10pm sale. Oh well, we got 2 laptops, so 2 out 3 kids will be happy, lol. We were thankfully by the bikes, so we got one of those also, dd has a holiday b-day. Anyway, this system is so much better than the pushing and shoving days. When they started handing out tickets for the laptop, this woman walked up to take one, she walked past the line and straight up to the guy with the tickets. She didn't get a ticket, as it should be.

They were the exact same thing. She waited until 10pm to check out and they rang up at the sale price. This was her first experience with Black Friday sales and the first year that I didn't see anything that I needed to get up early for. ;)

Even with the exact same item you will sometimes find that a limited number have a special SKU so that the pallet items are ringing up for less than the identical item which was out on the shelf. She was lucky they hadn't done it on her items. Good score for her. :)

(And add me to the list of people who cannot believe the OP seriously thought an 11 PM arrival would get her a flat screen on Black Friday. Tickets or no, it wasn't happening.)

I don't think that is a safe assumption. OP already stated that Wal-Mart did not advertise that they were going to hand out tickets.
So, anybody who was dedicated enough to show up 5 hours early to stand in line was already prepared to be there for the duration.

@goofy...guess you assumption wasn't so "safe" either...people do leave the lines they camp out in for hours.

So, just to clarify...

You would have been perfectly ok with arriving at 11pm - only one hour before the doorbuster went on sale, to find yourself about 100th in line for 20 tvs, as long as they didn't hand those first 20 people the tickets until midnight? You would have been comfortable not getting the tv as long as those people stood there for 4 hours?

The only thing I can think of is that if they had not given tikets out "five hours before the sale" the OP figures some of the people would have left the line frustrated/bored/etc and she may have been more likley to get the item.

At least at our store, you still had to wait in the line even after you had the ticket. So people were still standing in the line for hours they just were assured that they would be receiving the item they were waiting for.

I guess that makes sense. But I would must rather stand in a line KNOWING I would get something than to stand in line not knowing. Since the ads rarely say how many of X item each store will have. Is it 5, 10, 50, 100...
Someone else mentinoed that they were allowed to wonder the store after getting a ticket.
