Okay, just finished watching "The Boys" and "Waking Sleeping Beauty" this week. Both movies are MUST-SEEs! Absolutely loved Waking Sleeping Beauty especially.

:lovestruc

This just reminded me to check if The Boys was available via NetFlix. It's available via Instant Watch so I'm adding it to my queue! Dave Parfitt's interview with the Sherman Brothers' sons really piqued my interest about the movie.

I got all three movies for Christmas. I've watched those two and now I have to watch Walt & El Groupo. I'm also reading Spinning Disney's World which I also got for Christmas. Interesting to compare his view of Eisner and the one in WSB. I also feel like I need to watch WSB again to catch everything because there is so much in it.

It's definitely been interesting to learn more about Michael Eisner. When I was growing up, he was the host of the Disney Sunday movie and those are times I think back on fondly. The almost villanish side of him from WSB was an interesting juxtaposition.

If you like Disney history and of course, Walt, I got this DVD last year and it is very good. It's not available through Amazon right now, but some Amazon Marketplace sellers have it. I hope it comes back in stock at Amazon though. It's very well done. Lots of great old Walt footage.

Yes, I remember that too. Charles Ridgway writes about Eisner has having some Walt qualities and foresight at WDW. I'm afraid on the DLR boards he's known as the one in charge when decisions were made to cut back on theming at DCA which is why they are redoing it now. Maybe he was really more focused on back east and not out here so much. I don't know much about that time so interesting to get different points of view.

Just saw this after I posted.

I've had that movie on my Netflix queue for while waiting for me to be able to talk the rest of the family in to watching it. I just looked at it and I see now there is a long wait. That's interesting. Of course, maybe they only have one copy. :rotfl2:

We watched WSB last week. I just loved the old footage of them walking through the animation studios. Did anyone else tear up during the Jodi Benson footage with Howard Ashman? My DD loved the whole soundtrack of The Little Mermaid growing up. It brings back wonderful memories of when she was a child singing her heart out every night in the bathtub.

I know, I cry easily :goodvibes

I got it over the weekend....very good movie !!!! Now, I have to get The Boys.

We just watched WSB. What a fantastic glimpse into the WD Animation studios!

Decided last night to watch The Boys via Netflix instant watch.

I figured I would enjoy it, but I honestly didn't expect to be as moved as I was! For me, the Disney lore was a wonderful touch, but the emotional backbone of the Sherman brothers' partnership and its eventual falling apart is what drives the story.

My favorite sentiment of the movie was the mention that though the brothers don't really talk anymore, they still meet in the music.

Hearing them talk about Walt and others talking about their relationship with Walt was also very moving. I think it really captures the idea of how drastically different life was after Walt's death. It really complements the story of Waking Sleeping Beauty in that way.

I also really loved that the movie pays homage to what prolific song writers the Sherman Brothers were.

I feel a rewatch of Sherman orchestrated films coming on!

Oh, I cried during that one. It was just so sad how they don't really have a relationship. In fact, for a long time I had assumed that one had died but now I know he's just living in England.

Got them both from ITunes and watched "the boys" on the IPad and will watch "Waking" this weekend on the IPad. :goodvibes

You can also order this DVD and its companion book directly from The Walt Disney Family Museum by contacting them via phone or email. The DVD was made by Walt Disney's grandson and a lot of the interviews on the DVD have been incorporated in to the museum's exhibits. The package cover art has been changed to a photo of Walt and Lillian Disney. The link to the museum website is below.

Don't miss the "Jukebox" on The Boys bonus materials. Watched both WSB and The Boys, such a treat!

If you want to lean about Eisner's time in charge of Disney read "Disney War". Its an amazing book. http://www.amazon.com/Disney-War-James-B-Stewart/dp/0684809931

It really puts into perspective how the company was being run at the time.

We just watched The Boys - wow, that was a great movie! Love streaming Netflix!

I just saw "waking sleeping beauty."
WHOA.

it blew me away....
to say the least, I teared up constantly throughout the entire thing and it just makes you appreciate the treasures these people have created for us. I honestly think I would just be so lucky to meet any of them. It would make my life!

The end, all the deaths, and just the history...IDK but these movies will always be some of my favorites. I honestly can't imagine what life would be like without these people and the masterpieces they created. Truly amazing.
