Waiving The Stupid S/D Resort Fee?

Hi Gang

My appologies if this thread has been created before but I wanted to know what was happening lately. Has anyone recently had the stupid S/D resort fee waived? In 2003 we paid half the fee which was interesting. We don't use the "services" that the resort fee is supposed to pay for. I just wondered if anyone feels the same. Also since the fee is not apart of the price when you book it then it should be an optional fee. If it's manditory then it should be part of the room cost when you book.

It should also be included in the price if you are staying in a concierge level (club) room. IMHO. :)

Thanks,
Andy

:confused3 I'm sorry, would love to help. What is the S/D abbreviation? Thanks.

Swan/Dolphin. According to most they are no longer waiving it, so you can just consider it part of the total room cost.

I was unaware that there was such a fee at the Swan/Dolphin. Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention. I have never stayed at either hotel. Sorry I won't be able to answer your question, but I would love to know the answer for future stays. I agree that the fee should be made known in the price at booking and not a surprise when you check in. :listen:

The fee is not a surprise. You are told about the resort fee when you book. It least I have always been.

I've heard they will not waive it and now have added a parking fee

I read somewhere on this forum that they are not waiving the resort fee anymore. Then add this new parking charge - that's an extra $17 a day. I'd just figure it in to be safe.

OVer the past year I have read practially NO reports of success in getting the fee waived. (I think that if you are a Starwood Platium you may have some success on this and/or the parking fee) Yes, we know you aren't going to use the services, but the charge is thier standard. It sounds like the front desk doesn't really have the authority to waive anymore.

If it is not waived, does anyone know why they do not just add it to the regular room rate? I mean, is there a reason they have to separate this "fee" and let us know about it? Seems like if they just increased room rates altogether, instead of adding fees here and there, people would be more accepting.

I have been told by a travel agent that one reason is that hotels don't pay any commission on the amount of fees that they add on, so it actually makes more money for them than if they just raised the room rate.

They should incorporate it with the daily rate. This fee just creates so many unhappy customers. When they explain it's for the health club, newspaper and coffee, it's hard to justify paying it when you don't use any of these amenities.

We stayed 3 days at Swan and 3 at Dolphin last month. I got smacked down in both trying to waive this.

Just so you know there are no actual dolphins at the Dolphin Resort.

Yeah, a bellman there two weeks ago told DS it was actually "mahi mahi" up on the roof when DS disputed their dolphin identity. :rotfl: So don't be lookin' to love any dolphins at the Dolphin, Prince John! :earboy2:

With the resort fee being added on as as after charge rather than part of the room rate, it's also not taxed.

I used to be able to get it waived, then, one day it became harder (and really depended on which CM you got at check-In--some would;some wouldn't). Then, word went out that it would no longer be waived and it hasn't been since.

I'm one of the odd ones, as I certainly get my 10.00 worth, if only through the high-speed internet (always take my laptop). Then, my DH drinks at least a couple of pots of coffee daily. And I love to glance through the newspaper either while the kids eat breakfast or at night after I get in bed.

It's definitely worth it to me.

And the other name for Mahi Mahi????

Dolphin Fish.

The $10 fee IS with the tax included.
And that makes perfect sense regarding not paying commission on the fees.

Awesome! Bellman didn't say that but I've desperately wanted those critters up there to really be dolphins :rotfl2: Thanks for setting me straight.
