Waits for SDD on an EMM at Rope Drop?

Hi All,
We are planning on Hollywood Studios on a day that Disney has planned EMM. I do not want to pay for essentially 1 hour and 15 minutes.

We already have FP for Toy Story Mania but had hoped to DASH to SDD at park opening. I think our plans are “dashed” with EMM.

For those who have been to the park on an EMM day, how bad are the waits for SDD?

The SDD rope drop experience and SDD wait times are not going to be materially different on an Early Morning Magic (EMM) morning than a regular morning. Generally speaking, anyone attending EMM has had their fill of TSL at that point and has zero interest in sticking around once the rope drop masses arrive (which is sometime approximately 8:45/50ish am). EMM guests will be departing to quickly hit other DHS rides with low waits and/or go to the breakfast that comes with the event (that is served through 10am).

For a quick ride on SDD at rope drop, you'll need to employ the same strategy as any day.... arrive well early, try to be at the front of the rope drop crowd, etc. The only material difference is that there is no chance of Disney letting the rope drop crowd in any earlier than around 8:45am.

Good luck - the large rope drop crowds mixed with somewhat smaller spaces/paths and 95% of the people heading to one spot make for some interesting times.

Lots of good timing data points in there that likely still apply to an EMM morning, just that they'll hold the rope drop crowd from entering the land until a bit later (8:45am+) than what he experienced on that morning.

Reiterating the importance to be there much earlier than opening time and walk fast to stay at the front of the herd! We joked with our kids that if they lost a shoe in the pack they should just leave it and keep moving!
