Anyone have any insider knowledge if Disney will pull a cash room to fulfill a waitlist or if waitlists are strictly declared inventory being brought back due to cancellation?

Not asking if MS would an exception and pull Im wondering if Disney could see waitlists and realize fulfilling the request is better than having empty rooms.

I don't think it would be likely for them to do it, but I think technically they could. I would compare it to a welcome home stay.

There is nothing in the contracts that I have seen about getting a welcome home stay, but for new members they can/will pull inventory from the undeclared cash side to secure a new sale. So I think if they really wished to they could do something like fill a waitlist or pull a room from cash for a member booking over the phone. But I don't know why they would. The DVC resorts are already set up to have members use 100% of their points every year. If points expire then they win anyways.

And other than undeclared inventory I don't think it would be easy or it may not even work at all. It would be like them booking a room with points own over 2% at a resort or with those they got from member cruise swaps, then letting another member book that room from them, so they could use their points at a different resort to sell a cash stay? Seems convoluted and complicated, when the member could have just booked that same room from the start really...

I guess I didnt think about that , the points will expire anyway and that would benefit them, in my case I would absolutely use the points just not for this booking. Im looking at GV so I was wondering the probability of them pulling a cash room to fulfill a WL, not by my request since I know they dont do that, but just to "sell" the room that is pretty expensive cash or points wise.

It all depends on why the rooms are in cash inventory. If they are there because of trades or under DVCs own points, no.

If those rooms were moved because of breakage, then maybe.

They can’t pull undeclared inventory into the system for owners to use their own points. It would create an imbalance.

For welcome home stays, what they are basically doing is allowing the person to “trade” out their points to use that inventory which is considered the same as the Disney collection.

For the resorts fully declared, any welcome home stays are filled by rooms DVC booked with their points so they give those up as a trade.

The breakage rooms is where owners have the best chance of it happening.

Right, and what I am saying is that if they wanted to, couldn't they let other owners "Trade" their points out to use that inventory too? As an individual, not putting those rooms in the main booking system for anyone to book. There is nothing that I have seen that says they can only do that for welcome home stays...

I just don't think there is any real reason for them to want to. They only do it for welcome home stays to secure and make the new member feel magical about the purchase, and because they have extra undeclared inventory.

They do allow trades to the Disney collection with direct points or resale bought pre 2012. So, in that sense they already do.

Now, they don’t currently include DVC rooms in that because the number of rooms not declared at most resorts us small

I believe that most of the time, the DVC rooms booked vis MS for cash are part of their So, in that sense, they are there also available this way.

Basically, the current rules that prevent resale points post 2012 to trade to Disney collection would need to be changed in order for this to occur.

Ah, so they could do it, but with the added wrinkle that it uses the world collection then the points would have to be direct or pre 2012 resale? That makes it more of a hassle and even less likely for them to ever do it then! (Other than for new direct purchases like they already are and whose points are guaranteed to be world collection approved of course)

And remember, the undeclared inventory would be non existent at sold out resorts.

So, it might be way to cumbersome to offer it during sales because once all rooms are declared, it can not happen anymore.
