Waitlisting

We are staying AKL in late November. I would like to stay at BLT, and even though I booked at exactly the 7 mth mark I could not get it. So I waitlisted, but I have a question: What is the difference to 31 days and 7 days? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing the 7 day? Should I do the 7 day waitlist if I really want to stay there? We will just be doing so much over that way.

The reason there is a choice between 31 days and 7 days is if your waitlisted reservation is less points, the points difference will go into holding if it's 30 days or less. So at that point, you would probably want to cancel the waitlist at 31. If the waitlisted is more points, then I would let it go down to 7.

If you really want to stay at BLT but in the end don't mind AKV (your existing res.) then let the waitlist go to 7 days, then if BLT doesn't happen you've lost nothing! The shoe's on the other foot when you have no existing reservation and waitlist. At 31 days you can arrange/cancel flights, book cash rooms etc., it's a bit harder at the 7 day mark! Disadvantage at 7 days, if you really don't want AKV and will settle for BLT only & cancel the reservation, then you're in a holding pattern with you points.

I waitlisted for pre-Thanksgiving week, 7 days, since I drive in 2 1/2 hrs away, I could quickly pull the trip together. If I had to book flights, cost would be prohibitive at the 7 day mark.

Besides BLT uses more points than AKV, so there wouldn't be a holding situation in your case.

Not necessarily. If OP has a savanna view studio booked at AKV and changes to a standard view studio at BLT, AKV uses more points.

But, it is highly unlikely standard view will become available. If anything opens up, it is likely to be lake view. And you are correct, BLT would use more points in that scenario.

OP, what specifically are you waitlisted for at BLT?
