Waitlisting, One Time Points, cash..need help!

After 5 years of simple transactions, I'm now falling into my 1st convoluted situation and this one is really messy

We have a June UY, and we have some points remaining for this UY so we are planning for a short trip in March. We are also in the middle of an add-on through resale. I checked the availability this morning on the different resorts, narrowed it down and sent DH choices. We made our decision and I go to book and now 1 day in the middle of our 4 night trip is unavailable.

We have enough points in this UY to cover the 1st 2 nights. If I bought 24 one-time use points, I would be able to cover the last night. Here's where I don't know what to do.

Should I book the 1st 2 nights online, as well as process the waitlist or just the 1st 2 nights? Then call MS to purchase the one time use points and book the last night, or do I include the waitlist in this call?

For the unavailable night, if it is available at the cash rate and I make a reservation for that, and assuming the waitlist comes through, is there any penalty for cancelling, etc.? While I don't like the idea of laying out additional $ I don't want to move during the trip (assuming there is cash availability)

Wow, surprised I didn't receive one reply. Well, called MS, purchased OTUP to book the last night and waitlist the night before. Wound up borrowing to book something else for that night that is waitlisted. Sure hope it comes through because I do not want to do 3 check ins especially for a short trip!

Which resort and room size are you trying for?

My guess is that one night in March should come through unless it is an AKV concierge villa (even then you might have a chance) or some other hard to get villa. You cannot waitlist with one time use points, so you need to leave points in case that one night comes through.
