Waitlisting for different blocks of dates

We just received word that we made it through the ROFR on our first contract. :cool1:

We have some 2009 points that have to be used by June 1 and once we're in the system, I'll book whatever/wherever I can in January.

The question is..at the same time I'd like to have 2 waitlists going for a VWL studio the first or second week of December 2010. (I want my first Christmas welcome home to be at my home resort!)

I *know* its a longshot and if it doesn't work out we'll go in January and use our 11 month advantage for December 2011. The question is: can it be set up so that if does come through, the January reservation is cancelled and those 2009 points used or will I have to call in to request? I've used waitlists before (I'm an associate on my Mom's account) but always to change locations for a date certain or to add on to an existing reservation.

I am confused. If you have points that have to be used by June 1st, they can not be booked for January. They would expire May 31st.

When points expire, it means they have to be actually used for a reservation, not just booked for a future one.

What is your UY? That would help in determining if you have points that can really be used for a Dec. 2010 or Jan. 2011 reservation.

If you meant the points expire in January, then if you have a January reservation and put in a wait list for a different time frame, they will use your other points to book that. If that happens, you can then call and cancel the January trip and then ask that the 2009 points be used.

The only issue is that if you have to borrow points to complete that Dec waitlist, those can't be returned.

Sorry for the confusion....in my excitement I left out critical information!

the points I'm talking about are June 2009 points that have already been banked for 2010. They have to be used by June 1, 2011 or they go poof.

I'll be banking my June 2010 points to use for the December 2011 reservation.

Is this any clearer?

Yes, that makes a difference!

Your January 2011 trip will take place in your June 2010 UY. When you call, they should use the 2009 banked points to fill that vacation. Be sure you remind MS that this is what you want. Even though that is what they are supposed to do, it is always good to double check.

You can then put in the wait list for December. If that fills, they will use 2010 points and borrow from 2011 UY points if you need them.

If you go ahead and bank the 2010 UY points (since you want them for Dec 2011) before you set up the wait list, then the only way to fill the wait list is to borrow your 2011 UY points.

What is not possible, at least not that I know of, is to book January and set up a wait list for December and have it cancel January when it fills. Wait lists are attached to certain nights and will only replace nights that would result in double booking.

My suggestion is to book January with the 2009 UY points, wait list what you want in December, and when or if it fills, call back, cancel the January 2011 trip and ask MS to reallocate the banked points to the Dec trip that was just booked via the wait list.

You have until your 11 month window in January to bank the 2010 points for that Dec 2011 trip so there is no rush and it gives you a chance to get that Dec 2010 trip you want!

I (supposedly) have a waitlist for different nights than the reservation that should be cancelled. My dates in order of preference were Dec 5-10, Dec 12-17, and Nov 28-Dec 3. I originally booked the Nov 28-Dec 3. On May 5, I waitlisted for Dec 5-10 and instructed them to cancel the Nov 28-Dec 3 if it came through. On May 12 the waitlist had not come through. I modified the Nov 28-Dec 3 reservation and changed it to Dec 12-17. They specifically asked if I wanted to keep the waitlist and if I wanted it to cancel the Dec 12-17 reservation if it came through. Maybe they let me do it that way because the trips were so close together. Of course it could be that they didn't know what they were talking about and I never will find out (after all, that waitlist isn't going to come through), but that was my experience both times.

You can have two active waitlists at any one time. Whether it's for two different resorts at the same time or two different times of year for a single resort.

Wait listing is something we do very frequently as we LOVE Beach Club. We get it quite often, and generally pretty quickly. There have a been a few times we haven't made it for our wait list.
