Waitlisted over Thanksgiving

I just joined disboards and saw how helpful everyone is and had a question. Normally we're pretty flexible about dates but going for a family reunion over thanksgiving Nov.28 to Dec.3 but am waitlisted at AKL for a studio for 28th and 29th. No other dvc has nights available for the 28th. Anybody have an idea of chances that waitlist comes through or have any other suggestions? Thanks

The 28th is going to be a tough one. If you haven't already, make a cash reservation for room only that you can easily cancel. That way you will at least have a place to sleep for the reunion.

Then in addition to your waitlist, check the online system on a regular basis to try to catch a cancellation before the waitlist process grabs it up.

The 28th will definitely be a challenge, but don't give up hope. We had a 1 BR at Kidani from the 27th - Dec 8th except for the 28th in a Studio. We had waitlisted for a 1 BR thinking that really there was slim to no possibility that it would come through, but we got great news today that we our waitlist came through! So there is always some hope that a cancellation will snowball the waitlists and your Dream may come true!

Totally new DVC member. For wait listing do you need to have the points available to wait list? I am trying to determIne if I need to work on transferring in points to be able to wait list. I guess it would seem pointless to transfer in points if the wait list does not open up availability. Thanks for any info

You can set up the waitlist to cancel your existing reservation if the waitlist comes through. Then those points can be used for the new reservation.

You can call MS to set up the waitlist or you can do it yourself via the online booking system (try to book what you want and the system will ask you if you want to waitlist. It will also ask you if you want to cancel a reservation if it works and you can also give it permission to borrow if you need to do that).

I have been looking at those exact dates for a trip, and the 28th has showed up several times but quickly goes away. I would suggest to just keep checking the system. I have recently seen availability at SSR, AKV, and BLT.

Thanks for the advice, I was able to get a 1BR at SSR for the two days then just wait listed the remaining at AKV, hopefully it opens up cause I imagine it's a pain to switch hotels in the middle of a stay?

I canceled the 28th through 3rd in a studio at SSR earlier tonight. Good luck.
