Very interested in the idea of an add on and was curious...

do add ons have to be at the same resort as initial purchase?

or are they separate contracts

if separate, are there any major differences between doing a resale or waitlist? or are the differences similar to new vs resale.

Do you look for resales while on the waitlist?

just something I have been thinking about with all the talk recently on the boards about buying into dvc vs going the resale route

They don't have to be at the same resort. We added on twice at different resorts but they are considered an add on unless you get a separate use year. There is really no difference between re-sale and Disney unless the contract you purchase resale has a different use year. Then you get a new membership card and new contract number based on when that contract was originally purchased.

Yes without a doubt. The good thing about buying through Disney is the easy financing. The bad thing is the higher price per point. But doing both at the same time is a good idea. Call or E-Mail the re-sellers and ask to be put on their list for the kind of contract you are looking for. Do the same with your Guide.

Good luck in your quest.

An add-on can be made at any resort you'd like. 25 is the minimum purchase and it will be a separate contract. If purchased thru DVC directly, it will have the same Use Year as your original master contract. The contract will be identified by the numerical suffix (.001, .002, .003, etc.) but will otherwsie have the same basic contract number.

If purchased thru resale, it can have any use year and will generally have it's own unique contract number. Resale add-ons can also be as small as 25 points. (Be aware that closing costs will add a lot to a small resale add-on.)

Waitlist usually is the term usually used for dates unavailable thru MS for a reservation. Members can use the waitlist to fill in dates not available when they first call as they become available.

Waitlist can also be used with your DVC guide if you try to add-on thru Disney at a resort not currently available. As DVC acquires more points at a given resort, they may have points available for a direct add-on (even if that is a different resort than your master contract). If you want to buy an add-on at BCV and DVC has no points available when you call, I'd definitely let your guide know of your interest, but also let a resale broker know of your interest and ask them to watch for something to meet your needs.

Add-on points can be only be used at their home resort for reservations 11 months in advance, but may be used in combination with other points for reservations within 7 months.

Enjoy!

Add ons must be for a min of 25 points cash or 50 if you finance. They can be at any resort DVC has points for. They are back to doing a wait list so you should get on the list if you even think you might want points. You can make a final decision later. And you can also get on the waiting list with several resale agents to look for the perfect add on. But they do have to be the same use year if less than 150 points if you buy direct but not for resale. If the use year is different, you lose some of the flexibility. While I actually prefer to have different use years, I wouldn't do it for an add on size contract.

If you can find what you want resale for the same use year, there's no disadvantage and should be no ultimate difference. Technically add ons are separate but they are treated as one account other than the home resort issue. Remember that add ons cost more per points partly due to the increased pp closing costs.
