WaitList Questions

This will be our 2nd DVC vacation and we're a little confused. We procrastinated about our ressies and now we're waitlisted for a 2 bedroom BCV 9/19-26.

What is meant by:

And:

Is there a way to increase our chances, say to go day-by-day, or is that a big, big risk?

Do we really have a chance? MS told us that they can't tell how far down we are on the waitlist.

Should we check into another resort? We liked the pool area at BCV and the proximity to Epcot. But does anyone have any suggestions for another resort. I read that the slide will be under construction at OKW - is that out then?

We are a family of 5, so that's why we're looking for a 2 bedroom. Our boys especially, love Epcot.

If the trip is important, you should wait list all of the resorts. If you get OKW, keep it but then stay on the wait list for BCV and the BWV. The more places on your wait list, the better your chances.

A wait list could come through for a Monday and a Wednesday and you could be left out in the cold for the other nights of your visit, that is what is meant by "Just make sure they know that you want the nights in order not helter skelter".

Going day by day increases your chances but it goes back to the first problem of maybe only getting two or three unconnected nights and then you not having a place for the other nights.

You have two options: to waitlist day-by-day or for the entire stay.

Your first comment appears to relate to a waitlist for the entire stay. This is an all-or-nothing waitlist. You either get all of the days you want, or you have no reservation at all. This is the least likely option to come through as ALL of your dates must be available at the same time. If you want to stay for 5 nights, and 4 are available now, none of the 4 will be booked. Before that fifth day comes open, any or all of the other 4 open dates may be taken by another DVC member.

With a day-by-day waitlist, as individual dates are open, they will be booked. In the example above, you would get a ressie for the 4 nights that are currently available, and just be waiting for the one to open.

In my opinion, this is the riskiest option, but has the most chance for success. On this short of notice, I really wouldn't consider a day-by-day waitlist.

If you really want to visit WDW on the dates you have in mind, I would get a reservation at ANY DVC property. That way you have something for your trip. You can then continue on the waitlist for BCV.

If you aren't adverse to switching resorts, see if you can get a few consecutive days at BCV and then move to another resort. Disney will move your luggage for you. The main disadvantages are you will have to check in/out twice (each resort) and you could be without a room for a few hours between the time you check out of one and into the other.

Also remember the waitlist is completely wiped out at 30 days prior. You need to call again to get back on the waitlist. At 7 days, there is no more waitlist.

We are going to BWV at the end of October and have two 2 bedrooms reserved. However, we are waitlisted for one night on one of the rooms and two nights on the other room.

What I did was make ressies for 4 studios for those waitlisted nights just in case they don't come through. The studios will sleep the same number of people, just not as comfortably.

So if I were you I would consider making some type of ressie in case your waitlist does not come through. If you definitely want that resort, try for a couple of studios.

Well, I read the advice posted here and I called MS this morning. Guess what? I got 4 of my 7 days at BCV and then made an additional ressie at VWL for the 1st 3 days. I also waitlisted for the 1st 3 days at BCV and the woman I spoke with felt that I had an excellent chance of getting those also!!

Just curious, what can't MS let you know where you fall on the waitlist, do they not have access to this?

I don't think the system gives MS this info - if it did, surely one of the CMs would have "slipped" by now and told someone where he/she stood. Since no one has ever reported being told where they stood, it's a very good bet that the CMs don't know or can't easily find out. JMHO.

I also suspect that part of it has to do with some members waitlisting for a block of days vs others waitlisting for individual days. Pretty hard to make good estimates of someone's chances in that environment.

MS told me they do not have access to this info. They said the computer matches the list with what becomes available and there is a separate group of people that work through the lists to call members and let them know their waitlist has come through.
