Waitlist questions

I have some questions about waitlists since they seem to have changed the way it works. We last booked a DVC vacation in January 2006 for May 2006. We had to get on a waitlist for BWV. We asked for a standard view, but the woman actually told us that the waitlist for preferred was shorter and we'd have a better shot at that, so we decided to also get on the waitlist for preferred. Sure enough, just a couple weeks later, we got a phone call that the waitlist for our preferred view came through. We were asked if we wanted to take it. Of course we took it. We were also given the option of staying on the waitlist for standard view, but decided against it since we were borrowing points and if we took the standard room (less points than preffered), we would lose the difference in points that we just borrowed for the preferred view.

We just booked our January 2008 vacation last week. Our first two choices weren't available which we expected, so we're booked for Saratoga. We got on a waitlist for VWL and AKV. We were told that they automatically give you what you requested once the waitlist comes through, and we get taken off the list of the other resort. So if any of the waitlists comes through, we're just going to get whichever comes through first. So since we don't get a phone call anymore, do they at least give us a mail or email confirmation that it came through, or do we have to call every once in awhile to see if any of them comes through?

Also, what do you think our chances are of the waitlist coming through in January? I know we picked the two hardest resorts to get, since AKV is the newest and VWL has the least amount of studios, but we figured we might as well try! We're going from Saturday January 12 - Sunday January 20 in a studio and we booked about 5 and a half months in advance.

You will get a snail mail confirmation letter. But if you check the members' website (look for the My Vacation Points link under the My Membership category), you will see it there first.

Thanks!! I had no idea you could check the member website! Now I know I'll be checking that a lot. Right now it has us listed for Saratoga Springs....although I didn't expect a waitlist to come through after just one week haha.

Also, if your waitlist comes through you can still call MS and ask to be put back on the waitlist for the other resort whose waitlist was cancelled when your other one came through. Geez, did I say that right? Although you will be back at the bottom of the list, it doesn't hurt to try if you really want to.
