waitlist question

is it better to waitlist the single missing day which happens to be right in the middle of a stay or waitlist the entire week? this is the scenario: trip is April 16-23rd. I have found the room I want available for April 16-20 and then 21-23rd but the night I am missing is April 20-21st. I reserved the first half and second and right now have that night waitlisted. is this the best strategy? thanks

One night is typically easier to get than multiple nights.

Definitely shorter. They don’t hold days to fill. So, if you want 7 nights and someone wants just 2, that person will get them, even if they went on the waitlist a lot later.

So, grab what you can and waitlist just what you want.

so I have a preferred room booked for the first segment, same preferred for last and now I see a standard just came available for the middle. I'm wondering if I should snag the standard just to have something while waiting to find out if my waitlist for the preferred day comes through or just leave it and see what happens.. what would you do?

If the preferred room never comes thru, will you keep the std room reservation? If so, then yes. Book the std room. If not, then leave the std room for someone who really wants it.

if the preferred room never comes in I would have to have the standard room as we don't have a place to stay that night...

Yes book the standard and then set up your waitlist to replace it. If you already have an active waitlist, you can use chat to have them set it up to replace the standard reservation.
