Waitlist question

Newbie question here as I just got my contract.

Have a trip booked for April 2017 on 2017 points. Using 90 points at home resort.

I want to waitlist a different resort, which uses the same amount of points.

I've used all my 2017 points between the April trip and an August trip. When I am about to do this online it says something about using 2018 points to book the trip. If I get the waitlist and it replaces the original reservation, I just want to make sure it will use the 2017 points instead of borrowing new points from 2018 and returning the original reservation's points to 2017. Anyone have any experience with this? And I apologize if this is a dumb question, I just don't want to lose points waitlisting.

If the wait list is matched, they are supposed to use the points from the reservation that's being replaced before borrowing points (if necessary).

There's an option when setting up the waitlist to replace an existing reservation. If you have more than one of those, you'll also have to identify the one you want to replace. You should also be sure that you do NOT authorize points to be borrowed.

Thanks, yes, I do see that option to replace an existing reservation. I didn't know if I need to use points to waitlist, but it looks like no if I'm replacing an existing reservation.

If you really want the waitlist reservation, keep checking online for same availability. The waitlist process is slow to work sometimes and is known for not always filling requests.

You still have the option to select a reservation to replace but the option to not authorize borrowing has been gone for awhile. Now you just automatically have to agree to borrowing or you can't complete the waitlist.

That's disappointing! (Can you tell I have a hard time trusting some of the CMs at MS? I always checked that box, if only to make them think a bit as I seldom need to borrow to complete a waitlist and don't want them messing up my account).

Thanks for the info - I haven't booked anything for several months.

It makes me pretty uncomfortable too - same trust issues I think! :scared: I always checked it myself - but I also feel fairly certain that if they did not replace as they are supposed to that they will make it correct and replace points.

DVC has taught me that Disney is like any other company, some employees are good at their job, others aren't. We now try to do anything we can by ourselves and we don't see the mistakes, we also bought our favorite home resorts because you can't trust the waitlist process. After several years of MS errors, software issues, the whole way that DVC does business, we are selling several contracts and by reducing our DVC/Disney vacations, we hope to regain some of the Disney magic.
