Waitlist question

I have a room booked for 5 nights in value 1br and 2 nights in savannah 1br. The value was booked those 2 nights. I have a waitlist for the value for those other 2. Is there any benefit to look of those two nights open or will the system automatically put me in if there is an opening?

There are reports of people finding availability online before waitlists are filled. Having said that, there are so few value rooms, that it's very unlikely that you'd find it first. I'd say that it's probably not worth your trouble. If it comes through, great. By the way, do you have the waitlist set up to expire 31 days out? Otherwise, it will release points that will go into holding.
 
I do have it set to expire at 31 days out. However can you explain more? If I get the waitlist to go through and it is less points then the current reservation than the extra points go into holding? Or all points go into holding and it chooses other points?
 
I would keep checking the website. If 1 of the 2 nights come open, you can grab it. They will not fill the waitlist unless both nights come through. I have been recently stalking the website because of a last minute date change. I was surprised to run into 1 night openings for AKV Value or BLT Standard. I waitlisted 5 nights for BWV. By watching the website, nights 3, 4 & 5 came open, I grabbed them and changed the waitlist to nights 1 & 2. Then I saw night 2 open, I grabbed it and changed the waitlist to night 1 only. That one did come through in 3 or 4 days, member services automatically took the other 2 reservations and combined them into a 5 night reservation. I don't think I would have got all 5 nights through the waitlist.

If you cancel a reservation 30 days or less before arrival, those points go into holding. In the case of a waitlist coming through, the points needed are used immediately to fill the waitlist. (At least, that's the way it's supposed to work, but it's worth checking to be sure.) But if the new reservation uses fewer than the old one, the extra do go into holding.
