Waitlist Question

I am not sure I completely understand the waitlist. I currently have a reservation for June 7-11 in a 1BR value at AKV. I would like to try a concierge studio if one became available. It is not a huge deal, but since we are only doing the 4 nights and our kids are still small, I thought this would be a good time to try the concierge.

So, can I call and tell them that I want to waitlist for the concierge studio? If it doesn't become available, then my 1BR value room is still in effect, right? If it does become available, then my 1BR value is cancelled and switched without penalty to the studio, yes?

I figure that it certainly wouldn't hurt to get on the waitlist for a concierge room, but I don't want to lose points or my 1BR reservation. FWIW, we have a Feb UY so the cancellation of anything (or reduction of points) shouldn't effect my banking abilities.

Yes. When you call to get on the waitlist, you tell MS that if the concierge studio waitlist comes through, you want to cancel the 1 bedroom reservation.

The only "fly in the ointment" might be if the waitlist comes through 30 days or less from arrival. If the studio takes less points than the 1 bedroom, the "extra" points are returned to your account but they will be in the holding account. There are restrictions on using holding points and they cannot be banked. However, if the concierge studio uses the same amount of points or more points than the 1 bedroom, there's no harm in staying on the waitlist past the 31 day mark.

I agree - can't hurt - except as noted above. Good luck!

That is a good 'fly' to look out for!

The other issue with waitlisting that doesn't seem to apply to your situation comes when trying to get a block of nights. If you are looking for more than one night via waitlist you should be aware that your criteria will only be met if all days in your waitlist date range become available.

If you are looking to reserve 7 days, for example, and 6 of those days become available you will not get them because you requested to be on the waitlist for all seven of them.

Have fun!
