ok - what is the waitlist thing - is itfor example
I book at AKV at my 11 month mark and waitlist for BCV if it is available at the 7 month mark? Or is it wait until the 7 month mark and waitlist at BCV and hope I get it? How does a waitlist work?

If you don't own BCV points, you can't try to make a BCV reservation until 7 months. If BCV isn't available at 7 months, you could wait list it.

i know i can't make a ressie somewhere i don't own until 7 month mark but that I just is where I want to know - can I make a ressie at my home at 11 months out and at the 7 month mark change it to a different resort if it is available or be placed on a waitlist for the resort. And if on the waitlist does my original ressie get cancelled?

yes, at 7 months you can check availability at other resorts and if they are currently booked up, you can request to waitlist for a reservation there.

And if on the waitlist does my original ressie get cancelled?

they will cancel the original reservation only if the waitlisted room becomes available.

(well, 99.99% of the time, the waitlisted room will still be available to book after they cancel your old ressie to free up the points for the new one. so if you have a ton of points, it's a tiny bit safer to have them make the new reservation while still holding the old one.)

so if a waitlist becomes through do they go ahead and change your ressie or do they call you and then change it? does your old ressie get cancelled before they change to he waitlisted one?what happens if they go to change to the wailisted one and someone else grabs it before they finish changing it?

If your waitlist comes through, MS will automatically book it for you and cancel the existing reservation.

When the waitlist match happens, the room nights are removed from the inventory. You can't lose it while MS is doing the background work to make the new reservation for you.

You can see if your waitlist came through by checking the vacation details section on the Member Website. You won't see the waitlist itself, but you will see the new reservation. MS also sends you a new confirmation letter in the snail mail, but that can take several days to arrive.

I just did my first waitlist a couple of weeks ago. We wanted a studio at BCV for a week in August. One day (smack in the middle of our dates) was not available. I was calling on a Saturday. I went ahead and booked BWV instead to ensure we had something reserved and waitlisted BCV. I decided to go ahead and check our account on the DVC website on Monday (to be sure the point totals were right etc.) and it already said we were booked for BCV!!!! It must've come thru almost immediately and it switched over automatically. I already got the confirmation in the mail for BCV.:thumbsup2 I was really surprised it went thru so quickly. It did feel a little weird that they don't call you or anything...it just HAPPENS.:goodvibes
