Waitlist question for HHI

Hi. I've never waitlisted before and we've decided to take a "last minute" trip at the end of July. We are not going to Disney this year so I'd love to go to Hilton Head. I waitlisted for July 18-24 in a 1 bedroom and for a 2 bedroom. I know my chances aren't good for anything to open up, but I noticed that 1 of those days is open for a 2 bedroom- should I book it by itself and keep the rest waitlisted? Would that make my chances better since I'd only be waitlisted for 5 nights instead of 6? If it doesn't work out then I would need to cancel anything I've booked and bank those points to next year- I have a December use year and the points would be from December 2013 use year. For some reason, this is really confusing me! Thanks!

IF you're serious about going, I'd take the 1 night and rework your wait list. If it's in the middle of your dates that means you'll lose the WL for a 1 BR but your chances of getting a 2 BR are so much better anyway. Another option is to rent the points out or save them for a later trip and rent something for cash in the area.

You're WLing a 1BR AND a 2BR, right? 2 villas if I'm reading that right. A majority of the villas at HHI are 2BR. I believe there are only like 21 1BRs in the whole resort and those are lockoffs so they can be booked as a studio or a 1BR. So your chances of getting a 1BR in the summer are very slim. Just giving you a heads up. You might get the 2BR but not the 1BR. HHI is very popular in the summer. Definitely have a backup plan. :)

Yes I just wait listed both sizes bc I thought it would increase my chances. I could go the first week of August so maybe better to delete the one bedroom altogether and have my second wait list be for a two bedroom for first week of August?

Gotcha now. You don't "need" both villas, you just WL'd both sizes in hopes that one will come through. If you aren't concerned with the point cost, I would probably WL two different weeks for a 2BR as there are 76 dedicated 2BRs and 21 lockoffs (1BR & studio that can be booked as a 2BR).

Is the one available night at the beginning or end of your stay? If so, I'd snag the one night, WL the rest of the nights and watch the site like a hawk hoping other nights will pop up.

Yeah it will be just 2 adults and 2 children so I could swing either the 1 bedroom or the 2 bedroom both size or points wise. Thanks for the advice- I will go ahead and drop the 1 bedroom waitlist and have a second waitlist for a 2 bedroom for the other week. And I will be stalking the website and maybe it will come through! Thanks!

Drop the one bedroom waitlist as others suggested and waitlist a second week in the 2 bedroom.

Meanwhile, snag the night you see and continue to book available nights, but don't change the waitlist - that puts your further down the list of waiters. When you have an existing reservation, they just 'replace' it with the new room if the waitlist comes through. Meanwhile you've got months to perhaps get enough days to make up your trip.

I've got a HH waitlist for just one night in June in a one bedroom and I've been checking quite often. I see random days pop up and disappear quite often.

So... we are looking to stay 5 nights at HHI in August. Have them waitlisted for a studio, and a 2nd waitlist for a 1 bedroom (would prefer studio). I see random 1 nights available from time to time w/in my dates. If i book these random dates as some are suggesting, they wouldn't all be seen as separate reservations and make you move rooms every night?!

You would call and ask they link them, you're best chance of success is to take the individual nights and wait list one or two nights together.

So i have waitlisted August 27th- Sep 1st. Just was able to book night of August 27th. Do cancel my waitlist and waitlist 28-1st now, or leave it alone as a PP indicated my order in the waitlist would just get bumped?

Ideally you would have wait listed smaller chunks up front. If you only have the first night, I'd probably cancel my 1 BR wait list and wait list the 28th then keep checking online personally.

Thank you for the help! Ok- so last question-- We could do anywhere b/w Aug 26- 31st. I have night of August 27th booked now. My waitlist that I've had on there for maybe around 2 weeks, is for Aug 27-31st. Should I cancel it, and make 2 new waitlists? one for night of August 26th, and the other for August 28-31st? Or leave it all alone since it's been there for two weeks. thanks again!!

You'll have to decide, my guess (and it's strictly a guess) is that the benefit of having smaller chunks will outweigh the spot in line. But it's a gamble, no way around it at this time. I'd give up on the 1 BR option since you prefer the studio anyway IIRC unless there are several days there when you look before making changes. One thing you may want to consider for that week is to look at an RCI exchange though there isn't anything right now. Just be sure to cut it off before you'd go past the 31 day cancellation window.

I miscalculated. I wanted to stay in a studio from August 12, 2017 - August 20, 2017. My Non-Home Resort booking window opened two weeks ago. Now there's nothing available. I book Vero Beach as a backup and waitlisted a Hilton Head. I hope we get it. Does anyone think that I have a chance of getting it since the waitlist is so many months out?
