Waitlist not clearing even though room available?

Has anyone ever had this happen? I have a reservation for a studio at CCV and was trying to move up to a 1BR in June but 1 day in my 6 night stay wasnt available. So I called and put a waitlist request in, which I can see in my dashboard. Just for kicks i logged in just now and saw that the 1 BR is available. So I just modified my existing reservation to snag the 1BR. What’s the point of the waitlist if it doesn’t trigger when there is availability? Or does it only check like once a day lol.

I got it, so thats good, but i was just surprised the waitlist didnt work.

Just chiming in the same thing happened to me for a 2-bdrm at PIT. I would also like to know how the waitlist is triggered.

The same thing happened to me today actually. I had VGF booked for 5 nights around Labor Day, and waitlisted a 2BD at RIV when the 7 month window open. Logged in today to check availability for my dates, and there was the 2BD at RIV sitting there available. My waitlist had not filled, though.

The various reports I've seen like this lead me to assume to waitlist is a batch operation that processes at some interval. Thinking about the scale bookings happen at, it's fairly expensive to react to every release operation and traverse a waitlist. I don't doubt they could make it a bit faster, but if there isn't a need to, I can see why they wouldn't bother.

The waitlist seems to work well for many (I’ve never had much success w/ it,) however many also manage to grab what they want via stalking before their waitlist fills https://www.disboards.com/threads/stalking-v-waitlist.3885995/.

My guess is that a waitlist is not filled automatically the minute a room becomes available. My guess is that the computer system might not continuously search to fill a request. Maybe the computer system only checks every hour, or every 45 minutes, or who knows how often. Also, I don't know how much is done by computer and how much requires a human.

Yes, I believe this is the case. There will be a periodic check for waitlist options, but it's not realtime. We do waitlists periodically, but have had more success monitoring and modifying on our own!

OP- you might've just gotten really lucky! You booked what you needed instead of waiting for the waitlist, and you might not have been the next one in the waitlist queue for that date! There was no guarantee that room would be directed to you when the waitlists were analyzed!

It has been about 10 years since I tried a waitlist so I do not know what the process is today. However, Steelers0854's "lol" sentence describes exactly the process back then. Waitlists were checked and determined in the late afternoon with employees being involved to assure it was properly done. As a result, some members found their desired opening earlier in the day despite their waitlist having not been granted..
