Hi, we are visiting the World in December. Booked our home resort SSR 11 months out, but since we have always wanted to try VWL during the holidays (us and most everyother DVC member) I called at 7 mths and requested a resort change. It took 4 days, but finally scored 4 nights at the end of our 8 night stay. I am not a big fan of split-stays, really enjoy getting settled and relaxing "at home". So - I would really like if our split was more like 3/5 or 2/6.

I waitlisted for the 4 days prior to our move. Per MS, they will watch for the full 4 days, but if I want to monitor individual days to move sooner I would need to call frequently and ask.

So finally - my question - when you waitlist do you ever just ask for one night at a time? Then if you get it keep working backward in hopes you eventually get a full stay at your resort of preferencce??? :confused3

Thanks everyone!!

Dealing with a similar situation right now. We were 4 nights at AKV, and waitlisted for 5 nights at BCV. I called repeatedly, and suddenly the first 3 of the 5 nights at BCV opened up. I booked those, and waitlisted the last two....then I called again, and the 4th night had opened. So, I booked and now we are waitlisted for just the last night.
And now b/c of some changes with when some of our group is going home, we are going to add a night at the beginning and waitlist. If that comes through we will be 3 nights at AKV and 6 nights at BCV. Otherwise, it will be 4 and 5 (if the last night comes through).

This is a long way of saying, one night is definitely more likely to open up than 3 or 4. So, if you are willing to split the stay why not waitlist for just 1-2 nights; if it comes through, add the first 2 nights as a waitlist? And in the meantime, keep calling and see if anything comes through. To me calling is the key b/c 80% of what you want could be available but you'll never know b/c if it's not the entire waitlist, you are not going to get the nights.

I wonder, can you waitlist for all 4 nights and have a 2nd waitlist for just 1 night in the same room? That would be another way to go. We are waitlisted for our 5th night at BCV for the dedicated we currently have, but I am also waitlisted all 5 nights in a lockoff (only did this b/c there are more lockoffs than dedicated so figured it's worth a shot).

Yes. And this is a good way to go since you are at a minimum looking for an additional day or two. Once I hit the point where I didn't want to risk getting only one day (such as the 2/6 and I didn't want to risk having a 1/7) then I'd waitlist the remaining 2 days together.

Thanks to you both - guess I will call tomorrow and update my request. Sometimes diligence is the key, but there just seems there would be a better way. You know, like an immediate online system to see availability ~ wishing for the moon.... Still, so excited and thankful that we are DVC Members :cool1:

Just an update to my helpful magic makers, changed wait list request to just one day - 12/5, which was the one we most wanted. IT CAME THRU TODAY!!!! We are so happy, get to visit our home resort and experience VWL for the first time. Thanks again!!:yay:

Good for you! We're currently w'listed for an additional studio at VWL to our already booked 2 BDRMS for around the same time period. Maybe I should do the same!

Congratulations, but from your original post I was going to say I would rather a 4 and 4 stay. Simply because to me packing would be easier, I would pack relatively light, hit a load of laundry and before leaving SSR and be ok for the next 4 days.

Also, I wouldn't want to only stay two nights before moving, simply because you don't feel like settling in....but honestly, we had a three way split stay that happened do friends coming in town so we had two night on each end in a smaller resort. We actually had small suitcases for the moves and larger ones for the 7 days in the larger villa, didn't have to worry about unpacking/repacking the big suitcases on those splits.

Hey TisBit,

Since I am a "settle in and stay there" type of member I always prefer a longer stay at one place or another and greatly prefer the longer stay be at the end of the trip. We too will pack with the split stay in mind and will not seriously grocery shop until we get to VWL. We also have an Owners Locker (which BTW we LOVE) so it always means packing that up, although not with the percision we use when leaving at the end of the trip. Our usual split trip is between Vero Beach and WDW, so this is a routine with which we are familiar.

All in, we are very happy planners right now, and I am so glad I changed the waitlist request to 1 day from 4. Chances of all four coming up at the same time just seems to be a longshot.
