I have attached my current dashboard. We currently are booked for a may stay at Saratoga springs standard with 232 points. I would like to put a waitlist in to stay at another resort. Is my only option a full week waitlist since I am with in 30 days? We just closed on a resale contract and just had 50 2022 and 50 2023 points added and would like to use them for the upcoming trip. Since I don't have time to add a day at a time, what is the best way to do this? Just request a full week?

If you are within 30 days any points that are released will go into holding. Can the December 2022 points be banked?

If you want to make your trip cost more than 232 points, you can continue to waitlist the entire stay.

But, you cannot book rooms individually and then cancel out original days since those freed up points will go into holding..so, I think you are stuck with an all or nothing situation.

Is SSR still available? Cancel most of the stay. Make it into 3/3/2 or 3/4 or whatever. Waitlist those components if you are willing to split stay. Less days are more likely to fill

Then you decide what you want to waitlist. Do you really hail mary (BW view) or do you pick something that might fill (Kidani savanna)

You can reallocate points into existing reservations, I did this when I bought banked. If you plan to do this, then messing with this reservation and getting holding points is probably not what you want to do. If you already closed, seems like you should have already done this.

Any cancel or change within 31 days results in holding…so you can’t reallocate new points into an existing reservation and free up points without getting the holding status.

Basically, any type of reallocation needs to be done 31 days or more in advance.

I thought OP was trying to extend the stay, so holding doesn't seem to matter? I'd rather have holding than expiring banked, which I think is what they are saying.

We would just like to stay elsewhere and try and use the new 50 points. I do see SS preferred for 6 of the 7 nights and was thinking of doing that? .but would like to stay elsewhere. Unfortunately, the points were just transferred today and our stay starts 05/06.

Actually, the holding would be more restricted. Holding points and the banked points will both expire at the same time, but holding have the added restriction of booking 60 days or less from check in.

So, if I had both, I’d want banked ones so I had a longer booking window to use them, or book something to rent…the only time it would not matter is if you are already 60 days from end of UY.

But, the OP just wants to stay elsewhere..not stay longer.

You could certainly do that because it uses more points..but you end up with a split stay. Now, what you could do, if you don’t care, and there are still SV rooms there, you can reduce what you have, and then use the holding points, and some of your new points to book the PV room.

Then you can at least waitlist part of the trip…but, all this would mean a split stay.

I edited: thought I understood but wanted to make sure...are you referring to a literal split stay of moving locations or a figurative split stay with 2 different reservation number?

Can I please ask a question? I’m booked for a 1 bedroom at BRV for June. I’m waitlisted for a one bedroom at BLT and 2 bedroom at BRV. I chose 7 day expiration for waitlist.

If I get BLT 8 days prior, is my original reservation at BRV cancelled and those points going into holding and then there’s a new reservation for BLT? I assumed my original reservation would remain and MS would just switch resorts and take the additional points needed.

I’m sorry if I’m crashing someone else’s thread/question or posting this in the wrong place. Thanks.

Holding means the points can only be used I think it’s 60 days out. If you have a waitlist come through 6 days before checking in so that reservation can use the holding points. If your original reservation is fewer points than new… all good. If your reservation is fewer than the extra points go into holding,

As long as you set up the waitlist to cancel your existing reservation then it will use the points from your BRV 1BR. If you did not select that when you set up the waitlists you can call MS and have them make that change.
The catch with 7 days is that if the room you have waitlisted for uses less points and it is matched after the 31 day mark then the extra points from the BRV reservation that are no longer required will be in holding status. I'd guess in your case though that both waitlisted rooms use more points so you won't have that happen.

Yes, she means a literal move. If you book 2 different room types (SV & PV) -like she was suggesting could be done to use those extra points- you’d have to physically change rooms. Now, if the PV waitlist would come through for the rest of your days (& all days are same resort, same exact room type)- then even though you’d have 2 reservation numbers, you could stay in the same room.

All that said, my recommendation is to call MS. Explain that your shiny new (albeit resale) contract just loaded within your holding window & you’d really appreciate some assistance avoiding that since you’d like to use the new banked points which will expire this year. They are extra gracious when it comes to new contracts & often magically fix the stress for you (but not always, and it’s certainly not something they *have* to do, so be extra nice!).
Best wishes!! pixiedust:

Thank you and thank you Sandi. I did as you suggested and spoke with MS. I was very nice and she was very helpful. She looked at it and is also concerned about those points going into holding and if we do not want to move rooms suggests I stay where I am with my 2 full week waitlists. She would have unbanked those 50 points though. So for now I think I am just hoping for pixie dust on the waitlists. Thanks everyone for the help!
