Waitlist and points question

I'm not sure how to word this, but here's my situation:

I currently have a VB garden room booked using most of my remaining points in the current use year. I would like to put a waitlist request in for an ocean view room. If in my request I use the up to 7 days option and select the replace existing reservation option, how does that work with the points?

To fill the waitlist, will...

1. DVC borrow points from my next use year, then place the points from my original garden view room back into the current use year?

or

2. DVC uses the points from the original garden view room to initially cover the new ocean view room and then uses/borrows the remaining point difference needed for the ocean view room?

I'm wondering because if my waitlist comes thru within the 30 day period and DVC uses the #1 route, then I won't be able to bank those points from the original garden view room.

Any answers or suggestions would be much appreciated!

When you set up the waitlist, be sure to authorize borrowing.
