Waitlist - 31 days

Just curious.....do you think more waitlists come through exactly at 31 days, before the 31 days or do you think it doesn't make much of a difference - if it's going to happen it will happen?

I think a lot of wait lists come through at about 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 months and then again right around the 31st day or later. At 7 months the Home resort owners are switching from their home resort to other resorts and many are switched by 6 1/2 months out. And then any cancellations or changes between then and the 31st date are just random changes or there are just too many variables to predict. But at day 31 people have to cancel to prevent losing their points so the drop dead date hits and people cancel and then the reservations open up.

Thanks for the response! I have become a little obsessed with checking the DVC website - I have been on a waitlist since early Feb. and no luck - I am now approaching 31 days. I'll try to stay hopeful

It is possible...my January waitlist came through exactly around the 30/31 day mark and surprised us all. Hope you get what you want!!

There is often movement at the 30-31 day mark. Members who are not 100% sure of their plans will cancel at that point to avoid having points go into the holding account if things don't work out.

Holding points expire at the end of the use year and can only be used to book a trip that is 60 days or less away. It can often be very hard to use holding points and many of them expire without being used.

If you really want whatever you have on the waitlist and have a back up plan, keeping the waitlist until at least 31 days prior is worth it (IMO).

OMG, late February! I really sympathize with your obsession. I've been on a waitlist since mid-March and I was about ready to give up, even though I'm still 2 1/2 months out.

I have had a couple of waitlists come through between the 1-2 week mark - it just depends on if you can wait that long to know exactly where you are sleeping

In October 2009 I wanted an reservation for AKL during MLK week. This i s a really busy time for DVC resorts ( I learned the hard way)...but luckily on day 32 or 31, the wait list came through! I was soooooo excited!!!

I think lots of wait lists get updated at the 31 day mark since that is the "magic day" that people can cancel without penalty...

OMG, late February! I really sympathize with your obsession. I've been on a waitlist since mid-March and I was about ready to give up, even though I'm still 2 1/2 months out.

Thanks everyone!! Still no movement and my "obsession" is getting worse I feel like I keep checking it every 5 minutes!!!! Hopefully I'll be back here with good news in a few days!
