I just got back from a seven night stay @ poly. I will start by saying that I loved the Poly. It is just a beautiful resort. I did have some unexpected experiences.
We were booked for a 7 night concierge stay. At check in I explained this was our first trip and we were not sure where to start as far as check in etc... I was check in and given a map. That was okay. We found the concierge building with out much trouble. I had paid to have one of the interactive mickey's waiting in the room as a suprise for my children. It was not there. I waited thinking maybe they were running behind. When I called to remind the staff about the mickey they brought it up. I thought it would be waiting but not such a big deal. The kids were still suprised and happy when the mickey showed up.
I got to the pool and started to look for towels and a swimming vest for my 4 year old. I didn't see either so I asked one of the lifegaurds. She pointed and said something like by the cabana. So off I went in search of........ couldn't find the vest. Went back embarrassed and feeling like a bit of a reject. I was sure they were in plain sight I just was not seeing them. So I asked again. The life gaurd was so rude. She spoke so slow "I said right over there. Follow the trail around the cornor and under the cabana" I guess she spoke so slow so that even I could understand. I tried to explain again that this was my first visit and I didn't know the lay out. She rolled her eyes and said "yeah, yeah, yeah". I was in shock. and yes I found the vests around the cornor in a cabana, hut. How would I ever have know that ?
The concierge lounge was awsome. The chef was great. I will stay concierge when ever I can afford to. Just loved it. Some of the staff that worked the lounge gave odd looks. Like what the hell are you doing here. I'm watching you. I thought maybe this was just me so I never said anything to my family. Then I over heard two different familys talking about the same thing. I still didn't say anything to my family. If they didn't notice I didn't want to bring up anything negative. Again not such a big deal. As long as we enjoy out time. I just didn't expect this from disney. I have never ran into a rude CM.
I ran into quite a few CM's that didn't seem to know much about anything as far as transportation, hidden mickeys, mk hx etc....I figured that the whole area is huge and maybe that was why there seemed to be a lack of knowledge. Again, not a huge deal.
I'm still thinking about everything that happened. I guess most of all it was the lifegaurd. I 'm having a hard time believeing that disneyland and disneyworld can be that different. I had not realized just how important the CM's job is as far as adding to the magic/charm of disney.
Is there anyone out there that has had an odd experience @ disney?
I think I would like to visit again because I loved the feel of the poly so much despite odd interactions. I'm very interested to hear others experiences. I'm still trying to make sence of this. I guess I 've been treated so well in the past (disney,ca) that this was really a shocker.
