My in-laws just told us this weekend that they were going to take us to WDW in December before they found out we are expecting our first child Dec. 17th. So I of course said well we can go next year by that time the baby will almost be a year. Someone asked well what would you do when you want to go on a ride it would take twice as long because someone would have to stay with the baby. What do you do?

you can take babies on quite a lot of rides - things like Peter Pan, Pooh bear, anything without a height restriction - we even took our 3 month old baby on Pirates.
For those rides that you can't take the baby on, you can do a baby swap, so you only need to wait in line once. But if you are a larger group, then it's quite often that someone (grandma or grandpa maybe) won't be interested in the bigger thrill rides.

I would recommend some sort of sling for holding the baby while you are waiting in line, as they get very heavy by a year, but tend not to be walking yet.

We just got back with a 23 pound non-walker. We didn't wait on a lot of lines, but when we did we used the Baby Bjorn. It was a life saver, even though she is still heavy in it. She had a great time, was always pleasant, and really enjoyed the characters.

We took our own reclining stroller. It's not that big and is comfortable.

Baby swapping worked out well, just ask the CM at the entrance to the ride. At Universal, when the baby was asleep, we were even allowed to wheel the stroller through the exit to the baby swap room for Spiderman. That's not normal procedure but we asked if there was any way to keep DD in the stroller. They were so nice there! :)

If you have any say in the timing of the trip, I'd say it's a little easier when they're walking or when they don't weight that much (6 months?).

We borrowed a sling for the trip. We were able to park the stroller and carry him on to all the rides. We baby-swapped a few times (Space Mountain, Mission:Space, Test Track), but mostly, he was able to join us. He loved everything he was able to ride and had a blast! Don't forget, Disney was designed for the young (and young at heart!) Make sure you check out allearsnet.com for info about height restrictions and baby swapping tips. Have fun!

You can take a baby esp a 1yo on every ride without a height restriction. An exception would be the child who frightens at loud noises or darkness and then you can make the decision if you have been on the ride.

I highly recommend using a sling or front pack for the lines and even on most of the rides in addition to the stroller. DH and I took turns wearing our youngest at 15months and she had a blast. More boats please - was her request for any and every ride in WDW!!

FP wasn't an option then but definately use it in addition to baby swap. It will be different by the time of your trip so research it prior but don't worry you will have a wonderful time with baby.

One perk is free admission and free at all the buffets!!
