I have been on edge for most of today waiting for the results of my DD8 's renal ultrasound that she had yesturday.
She has had so many kidney infections that her Dr. wanted her to have this U/S...this is after her having a VUCG and an abdominal x-ray. This is the first time in any of these tests that a tech said anything was wrong. He only told me about it because I was watching him 100% of the time. It seems that DD8 has a normal kidney on the right side....and something wrong with the kidney on the left...it looked like either two kidneys conected on that side or her kidney is shaped oddly. Also we found out when she urinates all the urine doesn't come out...at least 20 cc's are left behind. So one or both of these things could be what is causing the kidney infection. Her kidney infections have always been in the left kidney the one the ultrasound shows is different.
The Dr. was suppost to call me today after she had a chance to go over the ultrasound to tell me what this all means....but she hasn't called and I have called there twice...and the end of the business day is 30 mins. I was so nervous last night I didn't sleep well...I was hoping I would hear today but it doesn't look like I will.
Thanks for letting me talk...I don't want to totally over stress the people who are physically around me right now...so I guess I am turning to you guys right now.

Wishing you well, and hoping you can get this all sorted out soon!!!

All the best,
sue

Having recently gone through a couple of similar waiting periods (and phone calls without results) I know that stress you're talking about. I'll be keeping your daughter and family in my thoughts and prayers, and please keep us updated on any news. And any way we might be able to help too!

When I was a teenager, my mom had a couple of very severe kidney infections. They did an X ray with contrast which showed she only had one normal kidney; the other one was just a tiny bit of abnormal kidney tissue. They figured that she was probably born that way.
That was a long time ago (I'm not saying how long, because then you would all figure out that I am old!) Anyway, my mom is now in her mid 70s and doing well.
So, I hope your DD has the same good luck with her apparently abnormal kidney as my mom had with hers.

They got back to me...they said the second kidney on the left side is only a partal duplication. That means it might not be a fuctioning kidney. But between that and the extra urine that stays behind in her bladder we are being sent to a specialist. My DD8 has an appointment on Dec 17 and she is on the cancelation list to get in earlier if someone else cancels.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts while I was stressing out. I am still nervous for my DD8 but at least I feel we are finally getting answers....very slowly...but answers none the less.

Pixie dust on the way for your next appointment.
