Gosh, I guess where you are can really make a difference in how things work out. I remember the poster whose child had a drink spilled on him who felt the restaurant did not care. Well, tonight we had the same problem but a totally different experience.
DD, her best friend and I had some errands to run and decided to eat at Olive Garden. DH had stayed home but we called and he came to meet us there.
Sarah and Chelsea ordered frozen Virgin Strawberry Daiquiris with whipped cream on top and I ordered a frozen Peach Bellini. We all got a glass of ice water as well. Our waiter was a very pleasant young man. When he brought our drinks out he placed Chelsea's Strawberry Daiquiri in front of her and then spilled the entire tray of drinks right into her lap!
Poor thing was absolutely soaked. She was too shocked to make a sound and the waiter couldn't stop apologizing. I told him accidents happen. Her jeans were wet from the waist to the knees, front and back. We went to the ladies room to try and dry her out as much as possible. In just a few minutes a lady manager came in to see what she could do to help. I told her we knew it was just an accident and we were not upset. She immediately told us she was comping our meal and gave me a card in case any of the clothing needed to be dry cleaned. Luckily, Chelsea had an extra shirt in my van and we rigged up a pair of shorts I had just purchased to stay on her and tied a sweater around her waist to hide the extra foot or so of fabric. (she is a size 1, I am not
)
When we had rigged her up as well as we could, we returned to our table and started the meal over. Our same waiter returned and apologized some more. We again assured him we had no hard feelings and know that sometimes things just happen. I also told him I admired him for coming back, that i would probably still be hiding in the kitchen. Boy, I have never had such service. We had a wonderful meal with a lot of laughs and teasing. There was no bill but we made sure to tip him well.
So, I guess where you are does matter. Olive Garden took care of business and we also made sure to thank the manager on the way out the door.
