Waited forever to go --- arriving August 2013!!!

So, saving money for Disney is getting difficult. I took my minivan in Monday because it smelled like it was burning oil. The driver's side window had stopped working again, the front brakes needed work, and my little fob wasn't working and air conditioner was not working as well as I would like. They called me back and said it would be $3000 to fix everything. I began to prioritize. I can live without rolling my window down (saved $600) and the other 3 windows work so I can live without the air conditioner (saved $180). When I added it up, I then came to $1400. I don't know how he came up with $3000. I had a coupon for 10% off. So, it was around $1260 total. When I went to pick it up, they charged me $40 more and I asked why and was told that the coupon had a max value of $100. I said, that wasn't stated on the coupon...so he gave me another $40 off. Yes, I am happy that my brakes work and the engine isn't burning oil. However, I paid for the fob and didn't get it yet. I have to go back Saturday. I am really tired of having to use the key to unlock the door. Spoiled, I know, but I live in a state where it is illegal to pump your own gas, so we get used to being spoiled. You don't really realize how you take that little fob for granted.

Marissa went to prom. She had a great time. I spent most of the morning and afternoon at the local beauty schools. There is one, with 2 campuses. One campus did hair, but not makeup and the other did makeup but not hair on Saturdays. So, we went to do hair first. She got a cute updo for $15. We then rushed to the other campus for makeup. The makeup counters in JCPenney and Macy's were charging $40 or were saying they would do it with a $50 purchase. So, we went beauty school and she got it done for $5. She was pleased.

Marissa is in Beauty and the Beast musical at her high school. The performance fee is $80 or she can presell tickets. Anyway, at a certain point you have to turn in your tickets and whatever money. So, if you sold $40 in tickets, you would need to only pay $40 for the performance fee. I asked my aunts if they wanted tickets, because they usually do. They each asked for one. So, I had to turn in the tickets on Monday. I usually take $80 worth of tickets and give them away if I have to. Either way, I pay $80, I may as well have the extra tickets. Lucky for me. On Tuesday, both aunts emailed me. One aunt needs 4 extra tickets. (The price goes up on the tickets as well after the turn in date.). The other needs 1 more, possibly 4 more. I am thankful I got the extra tickets, but there will still be 1 or 2 I have to pay for at the non discounted cost. They had 2 weeks to decide. Why wait until the day after? I don't get it. But, at least they are going.

Not much to update on regarding the trip. I am sticking with the Yacht Club. I think Chelsea lost my camera, so she is going to be searching for that tonight. I should have a shipment from Disney.com in the next day or two.

I emailed my TA about using Disney Gift Cards to pay. She wasn't thrilled with the idea, so I figured 10 weeks before it needs to be paid off, I will just email her 6 numbers each week, so it isn't too much of a hassle. Nope, she emailed me back and said she would rather have them all at once. She also said to hold on to the gift cards, because if I need a refund on anything (trip gets cancelled) that they will credit the gift cards used, and if you don't have the gift cards, you are out of luck. I don't understand why they wouldn't issue another gift card. Anyway, I will be keeping my numerous gift cards until after the trip.

This sounds like the story of my life, these days - so I can totally relate... I can't even begin to tell you what we've all had to fix/replace in the last few months... Dryer, new control panel for our oven (at the tune of $400), Josh's truck battery... Then when we thought it was all over... Last week, his fuel pump went out in his truck - thankfully he was able to fix it himself, so I have no doubt he saved us close to 1k, but still... Then the wiper motor went out in his Jeep... :confused3 On top of that - I am due for a lot of maintenance on my Edge, going in on Friday to do that... Oil change, new spark plugs, air filter, not to mention my air conditioner stopped working too - so I need to have that recharged, possible tranny flush and something else I can't remember. I was kind of being crabby, and I asked them to check my blinker fluid while they were at it - I thought it was low. :scratchin :rotfl2:

Most of the time, we are very fortunate to be a 3 vehicle family... Until everything breaks down at once. :scared:

I am so glad you were able to get everything fixed... We used to have a Taurus, where the power window motors kept going out... Started with the back two, then the passenger, then the driver... The day the air died, and all we had left was the sun roof in a black car in August... We were done with it. LOL

Sounds like you were able to score some deals on making her day extra special... Great job.

I get frustrated when people procrastinate too... But it's nice they are able to come.

Glad you are still going the YC. I hope your camera is found soon. And yay for Disney packages - those are the best. I just wish they would have a good pin sale soon...

Bummer she wasn't thrilled... My TA knew before she became a TA that I only pay for my trips in Disney GCs, and she doesn't have a problem with it. Unless she hasn't told me. :scratchin

Our trips are coming so quickly... As soon as I get all my stuff done for this BIG auction - then I can start working on the fun stuff I am planning for our trip... Super excited to get a move on that! :thumbsup2

I hope you have a better day today! :)

The week has improved. Are you at double digits today or tomorrow? I know it must be soon.

D~

We have another busy weekend ahead of us. Tonight we go see a school production of a friend of Chelsea's. Then tomorrow, I need to look for Mother's Day gifts and to weed the back yard. It is a jungle out there. Thinking of opening my own Animal Kingdom. Sunday is the matinee of Marissa's Beauty and Beast performance. We will get through it.

ROFL... If you open your own AK - please invite me, it's one of our favorite parks.

We did a lot of yard work yesterday - even though it was super windy here, it needed to be done.

Yes, I believe today is my DDDance. :cool1:

Also, stopping by to wish you a happy Mother's Day!

D~ <--- who forgot to look at your ticker... YOur DDDance should be coming soon - or did I miss it???

I did some weeding, so I will have to delay the opening of Animal Kingdom. I hope you had a great Mother's Day and didn't work too hard in your sewing room.

Last Friday, I was thinking. Yes, that can be dangerous. So, I was thinking that now that the room discounts have been released, that some people may be changing their resorts, so I asked TA is she could look into seeing if any of Beach Club opened up. It was totally booked when I first got the deal, so we chose Yacht Club. However, if there was a chance of Beach Club, I wanted to move. I got the email confirmation today. We are at Beach Club now. :cool1: Plus, the ticker says 100 days, so tomorrow I get to be in double digits. So happy that I got switched. Now Marissa has no reason to be pouty about the resort.

Super awesome!!! I know - I was super happy when FQ opened for me... so I know exactly how you feel! Congrats!

Wow Shannon, I had a lot to catch up on with you! Good idea to put the kids to work at Target so you can get a discount! :lmao: Let’s see…my son will be old enough to work in two years… But seriously, getting $400 worth of gift cards for $380 is a good deal! I’m sorry to hear about your car! I’m glad you were able to get the shop to stick to the coupon rate, though! And, hey, I won’t call you spoiled for missing the fob! I lost my keys to my old car last year and I had to manually open the door for a few months until I sold the car. It is very easy to get used to just pushing a button to open the doors or open the trunk! Oh, and I am very jealous that it is illegal to pump your own gas where you live! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, and I hope that Marissa had a good time at the prom and at her performances! Congrats on getting Beach Club! :yay:

Glad you stopped by. Missed reading your PTR. I see there is something new, so I will head there now.

Beauty and the Beast went really well. AND Marissa got asked out on her first date at the cast party. We will see what happens with that.

I have been super busy helping Jacob get everything he needs to get done for graduation. He has one more requirement and is struggling. Today is his last day to try and pass the state writing test. Disabilities really are hard. We are really struggling to figure out just what he can do as a job or career or even if that is truly possible. Higher education is looking more and more unlikely. One step at a time, right?

Chelsea went back to tap. They said she could come back and that they really needed her for the end of year performance and knew she could pick up the dance choreography quickly. I am glad. I love seeing her tap.

We are at 93 days. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: It sort of passed in a blur. Not sure what I will do about the trip if Jacob doesn't graduate. It is for his graduation. Do I cancel it or just go ahead? I don't want to cancel. He better just graduate.

85 days! I am super excited. I sent the last of the gift card numbers to my TA yesterday. I sent half a couple of weeks ago and the other half yesterday. She hasn’t applied any of them to my balance yet. I am not sure what she is waiting for. She said she would do it (half and a time), but I haven’t seen a sign that she is. I check random card balances and they are $50, so I know she hasn’t applied them yet. It is making me anxious. I want it paid off. I already spent the money, so I want to know that it actually is paid off. Is that too much to ask?

Came to work last week and something awful had happened. Work had denied access to DIS. So, I can’t read it or post at work. It is so hard to keep up when I only get to read it at home.

:offtopic:Jacob graduates next week. My ex and I are fighting over the tickets as usual. The school allows each student to have 2 free tickets and then they can buy 4 more tickets. So, you can get 6 tickets your first day. Then after a week, they will sell 1 ticket a day / per senior. So, I got my 6 tickets. I would have split them with my ex, but he decided to tell Jacob to buy only his dad tickets when it was one at a time. Not taking into account that I need more as well. So, I figured, I will keep my 6 (I paid for them). Today, my ex texted me and said I need to give him 3 of my 6. He said that is fair. I said, “How is it fair you have 6 tickets (Jacob had already gotten him 3) and I am left with only 3?” He hasn’t responded yet.

I am glad I didn’t take him up on his offer of Shades of Green. I never told him that I did or didn’t. So, every time the kids go see him, he always mentions how much he is saving us on our vacation. So, I am pretty sure he does intend to use that against me to get something he wants. Thankfully, it isn’t going to work, because I found my own great deal at Beach Club and he has no control over this vacation. The kids know that we aren’t going to Shades of Green, but they haven’t told him. They think it is funny how he goes on and on about how great he is that he is allowing us to save money. Never let an ex have control of your Disney. :headache:
We went to the Disney Outlet this weekend. I took $200 worth of Disney gift cards (from Target, so 5% savings already). I spent all of those plus another $30. We should be set on clothes, except shorts. We also bought shoes at a couple of outlet stores. We were first in line at Disney so they let Chelsea “open” the store. They put sorcerer Mickey hat on her and the red cape. She had to say “Let the Magic Begin.” She received a lanyard for helping. She thought it was neat. I never knew that they did that.
You have to love Disney Magic.

Yay!!! I love this! How adorable that she got to open the store. :wizard:

Looking foward to meeting up with you in a few months.

Can't wait to see you and the girls too. Now I am going over to your PTR to check out how the weekend went with your Dismeet.

Trip Planning - I went to EasyWDW to look at August again. I had printed off the August calendar back in March. Well, I was actually reading the information for each day, and one of the parks that was recommended on my calendar said not recommended in the detail. I looked at the comments and sure enough, there was discussion about it and the calendar had been fixed. Well, I had based my days on that first calendar, so that left me scrambling to change some days and some reservations. I will list the new days and ADR’s in the next post. It all worked out and my schedule now looks very similar to my very first one.

I was reading the boards a few days ago and was sad to learn of so many refurbishments. I am most upset by the Muppets. I have never seen this show at the parks and really wanted to. When I had everyone in the family pick their 2 must do’s per park, this was mine for DHS. In fact, it was my only must do. So, I am sad. Then I read the news of Jungle Cruise. Well, we don’t even do that every time at Disneyland, but I was curious to see the differences. Guess that won’t happen. I told the kids and they were most upset that the Jungle Cruise wasn't a possibility this trip. Chelsea didn't get to go on when we took her to Disneyland, so she has never been on it. Then I read that the carousel will be closed for most of August and I was upset. That was on Chelsea’s must do. She has to do a carousel ride whenever we go to a theme park (if they have one). I thought it would be ok because Universal has one, but then I read that it is only closed till the 21st, so it should be open for our trip. The kids were all happy that the carousel would be going. So, I am hoping the refurbishment stays on schedule.

I received my email on Thursday from Undercover Tourist. My Universal tickets are on their way. I had been waiting until Universal posted their August hours to determine if I should do the base ticket or the park-to-park. Well, before they posted the hours, they raised the ticket prices. I was pretty upset. So, about a week later, I received my mousesaver newsletter and it had the link to UT. I decided to see what the new discounted prices were, and they hadn’t raised the ticket prices. So, I bought them right then and there and I should have them soon. Yay! Touring Plans had estimated the hours to be 9am-6pm for IoA and 9am-7pm for USF. The actual hours for when we are there are 9am – 8pm for IoA and 9am-9pm for USF. So, I am happy with the longer hours.

I still haven’t heard a peep from my TA. I think I will try to call. Should I be worried?

Non-trip planning – Jacob turned 18 yesterday. I was all teary eyed the eve of his birthday. I gave him a hug and said it was the last time that I could hug him before he was an adult. We had a party for him at his favorite restaurant, which is more of a fast food teriyaki place. He had a great time.

Love your new days! Mostly because we will also be in DHS on the 25th with you... and we switched our Lunch ADR to a dinner ADR (I think it's at 4:15?) - so we will probably we walking out as you are walking in...

And yes - I would be stalking your TA about now...

I heard from the ta and my trip is paid in full. So happy. Only one of the many giftcards didnt activate. I was going to do lunch at sci-fi too but switched so we could fit starring rolls in. I really want to try that place.

That is such a bummer about the GC... I was able to exchange one of mine that did it last year - but ONLY because the pin had not been scratched off all the way... I was very lucky. This time, there will be no exchanging if that happens, since I have to scratch off the pins completely. :(

That is exactly what I did... Starring Rolls really hit the spot last year... It was very good - and the fact they have Napoleons doesn't hurt either. :rolleyes1

Lesson learned for me I guess. But how would you know the card wasn't activated? Even on the website to check the card, you have to enter the Account# and Security#. I am glad I saved money, but bummed that I am out $50.

Well, I had been reading how people were receiving emails from their airlines notifying them of flight changes. Well, I didn't get anything. So, yesterday I went out to United and checked, sure enough ours was changed. Not only are times different, on the trip back our flight are different. Instead of connecting through San Fran we are now connecting through Denver. Also the nice layover I had for both are now under an hour. So, no wiggle room. I have never had good luck with less than an hour layover. I have always had a plane late and me having to run. Hopefully, it will work out. We will arrive 30 minutes earlier but we have to leave 2 hours sooner than we had thought, but I am ok with that. Means we get home at 8:30 pm instead of 12:15 am.

I was worried when I read Spaceship Earth would be down for refurb. It is supposed to open on our planned Epcot day, so hopefully, they stay on schedule.

I printed off my LGMH from SenecaWolf yesterday. They are super cute. I am planning to go to Michaels this week to get the laminating stuff. I wish I were more crafty, but I am not. So, I have been looking at Etsy for some custom tshirts. I am even too scared to try iron ons. Plus, with Jacob's graduation, I realized I lost my iron. I haven't seen it for a year now. Not since the move. So, I am not too used to using an iron either. :rotfl: Another strike against me for iron ons.

Jacob made his first solo travel trip yesterday to Texas. I was pins and needles all day, but he did arrive in San Antonio ok.

Marissa auditioned for the Sheldon Dubs and actually made it this year. It is the high school jazz choir and hard to get into. They have gone to Disneyland every year, so I am hoping I get to go with her.

That is all that is new with Disney planning for now.
