Wait. What? 2 bedroom lock off?

I just received my reservation confirmation for Boardwalk Villas. It says: 2 Bedroom Lock-Off but I have no idea what that means. Can someone explain this?

That means the 2 bedroom is made up of a one bedroom villa and a studio villa with a door connecting the two rooms.

All 2 bedrooms at BWV are lockoffs. Some resorts have dedicated 2 bedrooms, which would have only 1 entrance.

Yeah, BWV is all lock off's. The nice thing about a lock off is that you get the extra balcony plus the mini kitchen and full kitchen and you have two separate units that each have their own door. But I'd still be very comfortable having my kids alone in that studio if I got a lock off. Basically the living room area of the one bedroom separates the master from the studio/other bedroom.

We have done a lock off and a dedicated, and I actually loved the lock off. For the extra balcony if nothing else.

I did not know this - that is why we had this same set up when we stayed at BWV - loved the second bathroom !

They have both. If you are booking cash then you would get the dedicated by default, unless of course as in the case of BWV, where there are no dedicated two bedrooms.

At the risk of insulting you and looking like a moron, how "certain" are you of that? I ask only because it makes a GINORMOUS difference in whether we do online or traditional check-in.

I know Sammie is very knowledgeable. But my guess is that if you book BCV on cash through Disney, you would more than likely get a lock off villa. There are only 25 dedicated two bedroom villas at BCV with two queen beds in the second bedroom and they go like hotcakes to members at 11 months out. The rest of the dedicated have one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa because they couldn't fit the other queen bed in the room (lousy architect).

But if you did get a dedicated, it would more than likely be the one with the bed and sleeper sofa and not two queen beds.

However, I don't understand why the check in process would even make a difference. It should say on your reservation what you have reserved.

I would agree that you are more likely to get a lockoff vs. dedicated at BCV if you are booking on cash through Disney. The dedicated appear to be more demanded by the members and I believe I have read here in the past that cash guests don't normally get a dedicated. All that said, I did have a dedicated 2 BR at BCV when staying on cash (it was a free upgrade though, not something I requested).

And yes, all 2 BRs will minimally have 2 bathrooms no matter what DVC resort. They just don't all have 2 kitchen areas, or 2 hallway doors, and the balcony configurations can vary.

I also don't know what online vs. arrival check-in would have to do with anything.

Two-Bedroom units are a one-bedroom plus a studio combined, and are approximately 1395 square feet. There are two different layouts for the two-bedrooms. The "dedicated” two-bedroom has a second sink and vanity area in place of the kitchenette, and a second large closet in the space that would be the outside entrance for the studio and does not have an exterior door. The "lock-off" layout is simply a one-bedroom villa and a studio with a door that can be "locked off" between the two. These villas are especially suited for couples traveling together who want some privacy. Two-bedroom villas sleep eight, plus one child under 3 in a crib.

edited to add: sounds like 2 balconies are only for lock-offs - i don't think dedicated 2BRs have a balcony off the 2nd BR.

At OKW, most two bedrooms are booked as dedicated until there aren't any more to book. You can request a lock off (we did it several years ago when we took another family and were there for more than a week and they were only joining us for four nights - we wanted to stay in the one bedroom protion).

All two bedrooms whether lockoff or dedicated at OKW have two queen beds in the second bedroom. That's because all the studios have two queen beds and no sleeper sofa. You only get a sleeper sofa in the living room.
