This is not meant to start a debate so if you get out of hand like the Lexus thread you're on your own! :p

Check out the newest Target commercial. It is very festive and it has Rod Stewart singing "A Few Of My Favorite Things" (you know that old Christmas classic from the Sound of Music?!!?)

Anyway, after showing gifts and trees etc the last scene shows a beautiful deer on a snow covered field. As it walks off the screen the Target logo comes on where the deer was. You know, the BULLSEYE logo

Now my debate warning comes from the fact that there are obviously two camps to the hunting issue. But I think BOTH would agree that just the fact that there are two camps on such an issue, what were they thinking?

I don't think it was on purpose but :earseek:

So the deer was already off of the screen when the logo came up? That doesn't seem bad to me. It would be bad if the deer was standing there with the logo on it! JMHO!

(And my DH is a hunter. :) )

I saw the commercial....and no hunters in my family, and I am not a fan of peta, so I have no issue to debate..........but my first thought was "what were they thinking?!?!?!?!?!" :earseek:

I can't imagine that Target will leave that one on the air.

Maybe it's just me, but what are you fussing about? The BULLSEYE is the Target symbol, it's not like they are selling guns!

I am *very* anti-hunting (don't worry, I won't get on my soapbox :) ), but I've seen this commercial and thought nothing of it. Probably because the Target logo is so ubiquitous these days, I almost don't recognize it as a "target" any more. Does that make any sense?

I don't see the issue with this. The bullseye is the Target logo and it wasn't on the deer so what's the problem. Am I missing something? I could be since I'm trapped in my apartment due to snow!

I AM a hunter and a very serious and ethical one. The funny thing here is that Target supports anti hunting organizations, especially The Humane Society. By the way the HS does not run the local animal shelter or help with foster pets. They are essentially a PAC and activist organization that has anti hunting high on the agenda. Target has in the past donated large sums of money to the Humane Society. Don't know if they know what is done with the money however I suspect they do. I do not have a problem with this. Everyone has their beliefs and the more diverse the opinions the stronger we all get. My only beef has been the violence that many anti hunting associations have perpetrated.

springs to mind the old Far Side tshirt I have that I can't bear to part with
2 deer in the woods and one has a bullseye on its chest
The one deer says to the other " Bummer of a birthmark".

Everybody needs a sense of humor.

I recently heard a rumor that TARGET would not allow "Toys For Tots" collection boxes set up in their stores. Something about it being because it's run by the Marine Corp Aux. or something like that.

There were more concerns but I'm not sure if any of it was true. You know how this internet stuff gets out of hand.

However, if any of this is true, I'm glad we don't have a TARGET anywhere near us. I'll stick with Wal-Mart quite happily, thank you.

Can anyone tell me if there was any truth to the Anti-Toys for Tots story?
