When we went in Feb the days were 8/10 (holy busy!) And fp for cars ride was gone before noon. Everything seemed shut down: tot, grizzly River run, Matterhorn, potc, railroad around park, access closed by big thunder mtn etc.

I know last week of October (25-31st) will be busy....but with the rides not closed will we hopefully have less wait times or less crowding or am I pipe dreaming? Will crowds be worse than 8/10?

I don't know if the crowds will be worse, but you'll be there during the very popular HalloweenTime "season" at DLR, so the parks won't be empty. If I had to guess, I would think that the weekdays (primarily Tue-Thu) might not be to bad, but the weekends are likely to be pretty busy. There may also be MHP during that period, which means DL will close early (we're still waiting to hear about the MHP dates). In terms of attractions, Small World might be closed to have it's holiday overlay installed.

It's weird, but I think the on season is the new off season. If you look at Touringplans.com, their history of July this year has been 4s and 5s! While Feb and end of April to mid May (historically times when things as a bit slower) were crazy! Middle of summer is slower because many annual passes are blocked, so it's mostly tourists. Once those blocks are lifted, locals are taking full advantage.

I suspect crowds are going to pick up once Fantasmic, Railroad, and Rivers are all running. There's probably plenty of people waiting for everything to be back to make their trips.

im dreading our mid September trip, as the AP blockouts will be lifted. So nice when its not over run by AP's that treat Disneyland like a local mall hangout

I'm hoping it means with more rides open the wait times won't be as crazy? Even if it is just as busy lol.

When we went last year during the week in October, we saw some 10/10 days and the CMs weren't prepared so they didn't all "cars" or whatever you call them running so lines were long. FPs for Cars would run out by 11:00! It turns out there are A LOT of random "fall breaks" happening these days, add that to the increasingly popular Halloween parties, and the plethora of So Cal APs, the parks were insanely busy even during the week for a lot of October. If you FP and plan, you can still get away with not waiting in long lines. We still had a great trip but it was CROWDED! that weekday trip was busier and more crowded than my November and Feb. weekend trips.

Touringplans has since gone back and changed how they rate their crowds. Our 10s have turned into 8s and 9s.
I'm not sure when you went in Feb but here are the numbers so you can compare.

Thank you! Interesting in Feb it said 7/10. I'd hate to see 10/10 then lol. If we didn't have a fp for cars before noon we Were SOL!!

I wonder why the old 10/10 is now 8 or 9/10. Presumably because of howich busier DL is now?

They realized that their old way of tracking crowds was producing mostly 9s and 10s and a 2 or 3 was never seen again!! After the 60th anniversary it seems crowds just changed and they had to adjust their numbers accordingly. When touring plans made the change, they not only started rating it differently from that point on, they went back over the year and applied the same formula. Like I said, when we went in October those numbers are Tues and Thurs that second week were 10s, and once I saw they changed it - I thought "I'd hate to see a real 10 then!!" Although my family is doing a December trip so who knows what I'm in for!!
