Wait time at Kona during free dining?

I am hoping to get an ADR at Kona before MNSSHP during our September trip. I was thinking to have the ADR time around 5:15, so we could still get to the party a little before 7:00. (I know we could get to the MK earlier than that using our party ticket, but want to have some down time during the afternoon to rest up for the big night. )

My question is whether I should expect a big wait when we arrive at Kona. When we ate at 'Ohana a few trips ago, we had to wait 20-30 minutes, even though we had an ADR, and it wasn't even free dining. If that happened for this meal, it would push us a good bit later than I want to be. Does anyone know whether a long wait at Kona is the norm during FD?

Also, how long should I set aside for the actual dinner at Kona once we get in? Is an hour about right, or more like 1 1/2 - 2?

When we ate there last September, I believe our wait was between 10 and 20 minutes.


It took us a little over an hour, but we had drinks, so 5:15 should be okay for you.

Another thought, would you be wearing costumes to dinner? If not, plan changing time as well.

It's hard to say what the norm would be since there are so many variables, but we ate there during Free Dining and we were only a party of two, but we waited only 10 minutes. It was a little later in the evening though.
I know everyone loves Kona a lot but we always find the service really slow when we are there. I would budget around 1 1/2 hours. there as well.

I have found that Kona if pretty good for getting you seated at the ADR time. We have eaten there a bunch of times and have never waited past our ADR time. We do arrive approx 15 minutes early.

One hour should be enough time to have dinner unless you are ordering multiple courses.
