Wait list

Hey all!

I’ve never used the wait list for a stay…. How does it work? What happens when you join the wait list. Does it hold your points? If you don’t want it when your name pops up does it do anything like put a hold on points or something?

If doesn’t hold the points. If it matches, it a CM will then automatically book the room and thst is when points are used.

They are all or nothing so all nights need to match for it to fill.

if replacing a resort, it replaces all..you can’t set it up online to cancel only some nights. That requires a call to MS to make a special note.

You can set it to replace an existing trip or book a new one.

If you set it up to cancel 31 or 7 days in advance. Choose 31 if you are replacing a booking that has less points so you avoid holding points

Or choose 31 if you won’t go if not matched by then to again avoid holding.

Set it for 7 days if it’s a replacing a less expensive resort.

You can cancel it anytime after you make it and

To add to what Sandisw already posted they fill first come first served so the sooner that you put your waitlist in the better your odds. Early bird gets the worm. Also, always good to stalk the website and watch for days to open yourself. You can have 2 active waitlists at one time so you can try a split stay (shorter stays have better odds of matching) or you can waitlist at 2 different resorts.

I assumed the DVC booking system would fulfill waitlists automatically whenever bookings opened up - never thought to keep looking myself. Has anyone every booked something themselves before it was automatically filled through your waitlist request?

Yes..but many times what I got was an additional room because after snagging, I canceled my waitlist and it then showed up again.

Meaning, I had the match but it had not processed. Just happened to me on Wednesday.

I think that it does pull pret to regularly and I am starting to realize it may automatically pull single nights that match..seen this happen a lot when I canceled a two or three night trip and one of those nights doesn’t come back but the others do.

Points are only taken if a waitlist matches.

Just an FYI so you don't freak out if you have a waitlist that does come through. You will receive an email from DVC saying your reservation has been cancelled. It will not mention the waitlist or mention that a new reservation has been made. They send a second email about an hour after with the details of the new reservation that were filled through the waitlist but there's an hour gap before that happens. If you check your dashboard you'll see the reservation that was made with the waitlist. Fortunately I knew about this through the DVC fan facebook page before my waitlist for an AKV value studio came through but if I hadn't.. yeah..
