We can't afford to add on right now, but in the future we would like to add on either at BCV or VWL. How does the wait list work? Do you have to pay a deposit? Does it every come through?

I've successfully used the wait list twice for add-on points at BWV. I just called my guide and told him I was interested in an add-on for approximately ___ points. There's no deposit to pay. He added my name to his list and then called me when points became available. The first time, it only took a few weeks for my name to come up. The second time, it took more like 8-10 months (I forget exactly). But the points did come through!

Lots of people do successful add-ons by buying resale. At the time, I didn't know much about resales. The ones I saw were for more points than I wanted to add on. And I didn't mind waiting for my name to come up on the waitlist. Since then, I've heard of people calling up a resale broker and telling them how many points at what resort, even if it's just a very small number. Then the broker watches for that size of resale contract and calls them back when it surfaces. Might be something for you to consider?? Hopefully others who know a lot more will weigh in on this.

Others have also said that their guides claimed there is no such thing as a waiting list for add-on points through Disney. Well, that's obviously not the case because I am among quite a few that have successfully used this "nonexistent" waiting list. ;)

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!! :D

Okay, say I want 50 add ons. Would I be better to ask a reseller or DVC? I imagine the price per point would be about the same but what about closing costs? I know there is a forum for loans and resales and such, but I'm not looking to buy now, just wondering.

Keep in mind that if you go resale, the whole process can take 2 months until you are able to use your points. If you go through Disney, I believe you can use your points as soon as you make your initial deposit.

If timing isn't an issue, I would check with the 3 main resellers and see what they have available. I understand from all 3 of them that small contracts (like 50 points) go so fast that they often don't make it to their internet listings. The best thing to do is get on their lists.

As far as closing costs, they should be around $375.00, plus you may have to pay maintenance fees for current use year points (but this is negotiable). Also keep in mind that Disney can (and has in the past) exercised their ROFR (right of first refusal) so if your bid is really low, they may chose to buy out from under you (but lately they seem to be letting a lot of things go right now!!).

It may sound like a resale is not a good way to go, but it can be an excellent choice if you find what you are looking for at the right price. Especially if you find one with banked points. Remeber, to use MB through Disney (to save $10.00 per point), you have to buy at least a 100 point add on. So your 50 point add on will have to be bought at full price.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!!!

If you want to add on can you request that you want your use year to be in Feb. and just wait until someone with that months sells theirs?

I think they try to match your use year with your current contract. When I just did our 50 point add-on last week, my guide told me our use year (March) was all sold out at BCV. He put me on a waitlist and said he thought the points would be available in the next 2 weeks (due to people cancelling, etc.). He called me in 2 days and said we got the points.
He didn't ask me what use year I wanted. Hope this helps.

If you want to purchase an add-on through Disney, you HAVE to have the same use year as your current contract.

I inquired last week also, and there was nothing available for August at any of the DVC resorts. This is my use year for BCV.

I have been interested in the resales available also. It appears, from all I have read, that you do not have to match your Disney use year to your resale. This looks like it should give you much more flexibility.

Yes, I had the same experience when I added on through Disney. When I asked to be put on the waiting list, it was only for add-on points with my same use year (Dec.). That was fine with me. I have enough trouble keeping track of banking deadlines and points for two different locations (BWV and BCV) without adding a different use year into the mix.

Hope it all works out for you when you're ready to add on. :D
