Wait List Success?

I would recommend calling everyday twice a day to see if the nights you need open up. There are times when rooms open up , and if you call, you can get them before anyone on a Wait List gets them. How do I know? I've been on a wait list and then just for the heck of it tried to call and see if the time I needed was open and low and behold....it was.

I always wait list and call just to double check.

this is why the whole waitlist thing should be revamped ( i know...again)

because why on earth should you "cut line" on the waitlist by calling because the computers cycle only once a day.

that makes no sense

waitlists should be realtime and you should HAVE to be only allowed to switch for the entire length of stay on an existing reservations.

many cannot sit on the phone with disney daily to look for the loophole...and that is a systematic disadvantage to tens of thousands...

ok..."whinefest" is over...."winefest":yay: to begin

Silver Queen, I live in a very elegant town that has three golf courses and boating on a lake. I picked SSR as one of my home resorts because it reminds me of my home. I hope you get your SSR waitlist. I'm sending you pixie dust.

Does anyone have any idea when the computers "cycle"? I would imagine like most computers that run updates, etc., it would be sometime overnight, but with Disney, who knows! But it might help with timing those loopholes just right if we knew!

Our waitlist for the first weekend in December came through at BW, so anything's possible. Good luck and enjoy.

I agree - calling twice a day, every day? What a waste of time, and a waste of our maintenance dues for all those toll-free calls and MS staff time.

It's enough that I have to call at the crack of MS dawn to get my 11-month and 7-month reservations. I shouldn't also have to waste time every day to protect my interests against obsessives with too much time on their hands :rolleyes1

Disney: save us from ourselves!

FWIW, we've had two waitlists come through in the last couple of years, and neither required obsessive calling.

I just had waitlist success! I got a studio for Sunday 11/14 (last night of Food and Wine) at BW! By waitlisting and calling - I got 2 1bd at BW for Sat and Sun nights and the studios!

One room I got by calling, the others came through on the waitlist.

My secret was to focus on one room at a time per day - I had backups for every day. For examply, I waitlisted a 1bd or studio at BW for one day only - when that came in, I did the same for the next day etc..

I thought it would almost be impossible to get 4 rooms for the last weekend of F & W at BW but I did it in 3 weeks! And I still have 2 months to try to convert one of the 1bds into a studio to save points!

Good luck!!

I am on two wait lists for 9/16-9/19. BC Studio and BW Studio BW view. I am calling once a day to see if BW PV or SV opened up.

After reading this thread I asked MS what time of day the wait list computers look for reservations. She told me they do it constantly whenever there is a cancellation and it happens BEFORE the rooms go back into inventory.

Maybe the problem is that if I am looking for 3 nights and only 2 open up they will go into inventory unless all 3 open up?

Just for the record-- I LOVE owning DVC. But with that being said, if I have any disappointment, it's that it is difficult to book a "last minute" trip in a variety of resorts. And I'm defining last minute as 3-5 months. Of course, I've always been able to get into SSR, so if you look at it that way it is doable. But I would really like to have a little bit of choice-- even if it's only one other resort!

Then I suggest an add on is in order. :)

How would an add on help unless you could book between 11-8 months? I think for the more spur of the moment trip (4-3 months out) you just need some luck and a slow week!

Well-- I'm always looking for a reason to add-on, even a bad one!

Everytime that I even think of adding on I remind myself about how the membership fees have been going up and I slip back into reality and make what i have work.
I've appreciated the posts about this topic, especially the discussion about calling regularly to check on availability. Although my wait list is for SSR and OKW (which should give the best chances) I do call from time to time to see if something has come up in the other resorts. Since I only need a ressie for 2 days I'm hoping I'll get lucky one way or another.

I would have to disagree with what MS told you. I called on Sunday to check on my waitlist days. I asked MS to check 10/12 at Baylake since I had a cash reservation on that night only since it was not available with points. I have been waitlisted for that night for the past couple of months. Guess what - that night came up as available, and for the view I needed. I booked the room and told her to cancel my waitlist. She seemed surprised that my waitlist was exactly what I just booked with her. I don't think MS knows how the waitlist system works.

I just got on the wait list for a studio in SSR or OKW for Oct. 16 and 17 (Oct. 17th is booked everywhere). What are the chances of this coming through? I was really hoping to get away for a quick weekend and am disappointed that there's nothing available. I'm not sure if I should go ahead and book a flight and hope that something opens up.

You probably will get it because i was booked at SSR 15-17 and was on a waitlist for BWv and got it this week, so my studio is free now! Good luck and I really hope it comes through for you!!

when we bought our contract...adding on was all but a formality for us....

now it is almost completely out of the question.

The waitlist is the reason: after Saratoga (again...thats where the numbers dynamic really changed) the waitlist lost all effectiveness by and large. so now you are often limited in your choices and losing the ability to book on shorter notice to get anything at all.

That is the prime reason we bought in: to rotate around and get a "different" experience each time we traveled to a place that is a second home to us (we actually have a second home we rent in Orlando)...

now that is not a given benefit to the membership - though they still advertise it as such. so i will not purchase any more points until they develop enough spots in "more desirable" locations to offset the mass ones they have on the lower end of the food change.

But i personally believe that poly/ grand units will be done sooner if not later...and an expansion of wilderness lodge or a yacht club addition would also go to alleviating this much as well.

it looks as though animal kingdom though - as i feared - will on increase the problem of logjams on the waitlist.

you can't have 100-200 units in one spot and then later build ones with 500, 1000 at others....it just doesn't work.

Thanks for the encouraging words Erin Akey but I haven't gotten any good news yet. There must be several people above me on the wait list for those days.

Wow!!! I take that back! I just checked the DVC site (for the second time today) and there it was! I now have a ressie at SSR for Oct. 16 & 17! Maybe it was yours Erin Akey! Hooray!!! I'm so happy!

Congrats, Silver Queen! It's encouraging to see the system works sometimes! Now, I'm off to check the DVC site to check on my status...

I've tryed to wait list and have never had luck. It sounds like it's working for some though. good for you.

To those who think SSR (and AKV) have messed things up, do you think opening more off-WDW properties will help? The VGC in California is very small, so probably not much effect. But maybe future Disneyland DVCs...? And the Hawaii DVC sounds like it will be on the scale of AKV. Those should help spread out the demand at WDW resorts, no? Or do you think it just creates more competition for the same WDW resorts? (full disclosure: I'm definitely more of a WDW guy than a DLR guy, but I bought in VGC because it was cheaper than BLT at the time. So I'm one of the ones who will make WDW waitlist even harder - sorry.)
